Under the foundation of a pawn shop
Emma P.O.V

"Good morning, ma'am, it's seven of the clock, breakfast will be ready in fifteen minutes, the scheduled time for your hair and pedicure appointment was cancelled and moved to later this evening."

"Thanks for the info, Sarah." she nodded.

"Oh and one last thing, your meeting with the board will commence in an hours time."

"Okay. I'd better get dressed."

"Anything else you'll need?"

"Yeah, the brown file. I'd like you to take it to the conference room."

"Right away."

*****

"Welcome everyone especially you, Agent zero."

"Thank you Alfred but I'd prefer being referred to as Emma."

"Very well 'Emma'. Before the meeting begins, the board of PEEK would like to make a toast to yet another success in your last assignment."

" I appreciate the concern." I expressed truly.

"Now to business." Alfred informed picking up some documents. "We're gathered here today as phase one of straightening out the case is complete. It's now up to us to find the missing piece." He summarised.

"Emma I'd like you to brief us on the brown file you attained." A board member suggested."

"Very well."

I picked the file up, lifting it's seal and pulling out its content. There in it, lay a letter and some compositions which were in bad shape. I took a second look at the letter and it's recipient with my eye catching the name 'Saley'. It was boldy written on it. weird I said to myself and quickly acted professional burying the perplex look on my face. Voicing out the recipient's name, I tore open the envelope. It was dated at midnight, years from now and it ran in this way;

Dear Saley,

I write you this letter with knowledge on how near death approaches me. I hope that you will spare me for not telling you about this earlier. My trusted hireling, Carl Fletcher, is still young but assures me of your safety. As to the mystery behind my incoming demise, it's up to you to trail it. Now, do stay strong and I shall be with you....In your dreams.

Love, dad.

We sat, silent for minutes. The board scrutinised every single word I read out while I sat depressed and shaken at what I had done.

"That's all it says?" Alfred spoke up, questioning.

"Y..yeah." I said in response, shapened.

" Good. At least we've got our next clue, 'Carl Fletcher'. Sarah?"

"Sir."

"I'll need you to gather up more info on this name"

"Right away sir." She walked out of the room.

"Any body with hints and suggestions should content me. For the mean time, it's good day." They stood and proceeded out of the room.

"Alfred. Can I have a word with you?" I asked.

"Why not."he stated.

"In private?"

"If you insist." We moved to corner of the room. "What is it?"

"Humph.." I sighed. "It's about the name on that letter."

"What about it?"

" I know her, we worked together in the Warehouse were I was sent to infiltrate. She never changed her name."

"Then why waste time? Let's go get her."

"N..no, you don't understand." I expressed.

"Huh?"

"She's....dead."

"Excuse me?" He referred with confusion.

"Look, I killed her okay!"

"You-"

"I murdered her, am sorry, I hadn't schemed her relevance until now."

"Do you realise what you've done!!?? You ruined everything, prejudicing the whole operation!!"

"I..I know, am sorry." I pleaded, stammering.

Disoriented, he muttered "you should be.., Security!"

They marched into the office waiting for their next order.
"Arrest her" he commanded as they clasped my arms behind my back and hauled me away.

"No! Hey!" I struggled. "get your hands off me."

Without hanging on my words, Alfred strolled away. I stopped resisting and succumbed to the officers who gradually pulled me away.
