Mitch's POV
We were sitting by the lake watching all the campers. I heard a bunch of people yelling. I turned around to see a bunch of girls running down the hill with Kirstie and Esther close behind. Kirstie was walking with two campers who I thought might be Sophia and Jackie. I figured that they would probably want to work on music. I noticed Jackie wasn't wearing her bathing suit, but I didn't really think anything of it.
"Hey girls!" Scott and I exclaimed when they met up with us
"Hey!" They replied. Jackie laid her towel down next to me and sat on it, with a book in her hand. Sophia laid her towel next to Jackie's and Kirstie next to her.
"Jackie, why aren't you wearing your bathing suit?" I asked. The short girl looked over at Kirstie before answering.
"It's kind of a long story"
Jackie's POV
It's not really that long of a story. It's just complicated.
"Don't you want to swim?" Scott asked Sophia.
"If Jackie isn't swimming I'm not." She replied.
"That's cute." Mitch giggled. Sophia and I shrugged. "We have time if you want to tell the story."
"I don't know..." Jackie sighed. "It's just that... I got hurt last year, it was a freak accident, but it was bad. I had to have surgery and my body is kinda messed up from it. I have scars and marks-"
"But they are you battle wounds, Jackie, you know no one would make fun of you for scars." Sophia started. "And you are not overweight, you are perfect. Every girl at school wishes she could be as gorgeous as you."
"Not true."
"It is very true. You just don't want to listen to me."
"Nah ah!"
"Yes ah! And I will keep telling you, you are perfect."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Don't fight with me, Miss Jackie! You know I will always win." Sophia crossed her arms.
"Ugh, just because you are stubborn I'll agree."
"Now say it."
"Say what?"
"Say 'I am perfect.'"
"I am perfect."
"There we go." Sophia hugged me. "If we go swimming next week will you swim?"
"Will you stay with me?"
"Of course."
"Awwwww! I ship it!" Scott clapped.
We sat there while everyone else was swimming. I brought my summer reading with me and was really enjoying the book.
"What book are you reading?" Mitch asked me
"The Beans Trees. It's my summer reading, but I actually really like it"
"Nice. Do you like reading?"
"Yeah. I just haven't been able to find a book I want to read that isn't summer reading"
"I actually brought some books so maybe once you've finished your summer reading you could borrow one"
"That would be great! Thanks!"
