“have you got the reports?”
“yes....”
The doctor shifted uncomfortably while rereading the medical reports. He knew what he read first was true but he refused to believe the words on the paper in front of him.
“she trusted me so much and I let her down. I failed to keep her alive” he said sadly as he looked at the man in front of him. Technically any patient’s information is supposed to be kept confidential but looking at the circumstances he handed the man the reports.
“you have not failed Mathews...she still has time.” The man said without even giving the reports a glance
“what are mere days compared to a life time?” Doctor Mathews covered his face with his hands and let out a defeated sign
“a lot more if you make the most of it.” The man replied with a distant look on his face that made doctor Mathews look up at him in agreement.
“But how will I break it down to her. She will be heart broken and for all I know she might leave before her time upon hearing this news” doctor Mathews stood up and started pacing around in his office
“then don’t tell her! Let her live a life of lies even in her last days! Don’t bother telling her that she has only till Halloween to live! Don’t tell her that she will never be able to see and live the future she is dreaming of!” the man yelled as he slammed the report file on the table and got up with such force that it broke the handle of the chair he was seated on.
Doctor Mathews flinched at the man’s sudden outburst and stopped dead on his tracks. The man gave out a heavy sign and ran his fingers through his brown hair styling it into a quiff.
“look, I didn’t mean to yell at you like that but keeping her in the dark will do more damage than good.” The man reasoned and somehow managed to convince doctor Mathews.
“You speak the truth, but what about the truth you are hiding from her?” doctor Mathews studied the man’s expression to see it change from anger to sadness.
“when the right time comes, I will reveal all to her. For now keep my existence in the shadows. It is for her own good.” The man got up and walked towards the door, he twisted the handle and turned to see doctor Mathews sign and sit back on his chair.
“Jasper, she needs you” doctor Mathews said defeated and looked up to see Jasper smile
“I will be there for her when ever she needs me...not physically but I shall be with her... always” Jasper left the office with a sad doctor Mathews looking at the door then at the report in front of him. He began wondering how he would break the news down to her and how she will react.
Jasper left the hospital and got into his black Range Rover sport.
“how soon?” a lady wearing a scarf asked Jasper who signed and gave a small smile
“Halloween”
