The speakers by the clocks in the classrooms announced the morning news.

"As of yesterday, this period of time was known as 'The Years of Creation and Development in Government'. Today however is a new life. It is January first, 4020, and it is by requirement that I tell this story.

"Every 20 years, the grade of seventh degree primary learning are observed in education. The ten smartest schools in the 31 states of the New United States of America is selected. Sycamore Middle School is proud to have received this honor three periods straight. The school is to then select fifty students to take the beginning T.O.A.K test. The top ten scores are then given the final test, the T.O.A.K. A max of three students from each school scoring above eight-hundred eighty are selected to be part of the elite group 'Gifted'. S.M.S is proud to have submitted one student, John Peterson, to the selected. This completes our story.

"This year however, is different. Sycamore Middle School, I am proud to announce the exclusive information that this period has been officially been named 'The Years of Sycamore and Intelligence in Advanced Mathematics!

"This year S.M.S. had six students score above criteria. Sadly however, we can only choose the best three. The students joining 'Gifted' are..." The announcer paused for effect

"Chelsea Ken Johnson." Sylver grimaced. She wouldn't hear the end of it from the other mean girls. Stupid Chelsea!They couldn't hear the cheers from the other side of the school.

"Jordan Willow Kriston." Chelsea's boyfriend. He wasn't here today. Sylver only felt a little bad for him. He would hear it on the news eventually.

"And finally, last but not least and two points short of a perfect score..." You could hear shocked and amazed gasps from all over the school. Sylver's was among them.

"Miss Sylver Anne Coyne!" The room erupted in cheers. She was breathless. Everyone started trying to talk to her at once, asking questions she couldn't answer.

"How did you do it?"

"Wow! Can I have your autograph before they ship you off?"

"You get to choose ten people to travel and live in your new home! Can you choose me? Don't forget, the government pay for flight, food, and a house!"

Oh yeah. Sylver had forgotten about that. Who would I choose? What would I even want in a house that big? She was so overwhelmed she got a headache.

Sylver attempted to speak over the madness. "Shh! I can't hear anything!"

Everyone immediately obeyed.

She took a deep breath.

"I need to speak to Sandra, Harper, Mackenzie, in the hallway alone. Please don't eavesdrop. Just don't. Come on guys."

They walked into the hallway. Sylver sucked in another breath. This could be difficult.

~~~
"So..." Sandra said. "Congratulations!" She held up her hand for a high five. Sylver reached up to hit her hand, and Sandra dabbed on her.
"Really? Again?" Sylver sighed.
"Gurl, how did you do that? I didn't know you were smart!" Mackenzie said. They all laughed.
"I've always been the smartest!" Sylver joked, receiving a punch to the arm from Sandra. "Anyways, are you guys coming with me?"
"Coming where?" Harper asked.
Sylver rolled her eyes at them and grinned. "Where do you think?"
Sandra drew in a breath."Really? Yay! Thank You! You're the best Sylvy!" Her face suddenly fell. "What if my parents won't let me go?"
"Of course they'll let you go! Your parents are awesome!"
"Yeah, you're right. What should I even bring?" She questioned.
Sylver shrugged, "Whatever you think you need."
"What are you bringing?"
"Everything. My parents are coming too."
"Okay!" She said, excitedly.
There was a brief pause.
"We'll talk more later . Can you guys meet me in the band room after school?"
They all agreed.
