Looking out amongst the hundreds of marked graves, a sense of loss passed over me. I shielded myself from the bright sun looming overhead with my black umbrella as I walked closer and closer. The soft grass swayed along the ground as the wind gently blew. My black dress trailed along the ground while my hands were covered by black, leather gloves softly grasping two blood red roses. My eyes were shield by black shades as I saw Tessa's parents looming head, tears running down their faces as they cried out for their daughter. I could see a lot of Tessa's family gathered but I caught no sight of anyone from the gang. I walked along the graves before standing towards the back of the ceremony, a few heads turned at my approach before turning away, sorrow filling the air. The ceremony was long and filled with cries. As the ceremony began to close, most members stood talking to other family members, others expressing their condolences.
"I thought Katrina would be here" I heard my name mentioned.
I turned sharply at the sound of my name before catching sight of Tessa's parents, huddled close as they stared at the grave. I felt my heartbreak as I watched the people who were practically second parents to me, cry at the loss of their daughter and my absence. I cried quietly as I laid my rose on the grave in respect, narrowly avoiding eye contact with everyone.
"I might never know why you did what you did but you were like a sister to me. I'll never forget all those times where you protected me and all the good memories we shared. Why did you do it? Why would you betray us?" I cried softly to the grave as though expecting an answer.
I gently laid the second rose next to mine, the colour of the rose sharply contrasting amongst the world of grey that we seemed to be stuck in.
"This one is from Evan, he really wanted to be here but not with everyone else here. You really got to him you know? Honestly, it was the first time I've ever seen him cry" I started again, recalling when Evan asked me to lay a rose down for him in respect. Lastly, I carefully pulled out the delicate drawing of a rose that Blaze had given me before placing it underneath our roses so it wouldn't fly away.
I sighed before changing my direction unable to stare any longer at Tessa's grave. I started slowly walking further and further away from the grieving family. I observed the hundreds of marble stone graves, each for a member of a family belonging to the streets. A lone crow cawed overhead before flying off. I slowly got lost in my thoughts, thoughts about the past, my revenge...Rin. I hadn't even realised that I was now approaching another grave of marble stone. The engraving stating;
RIN ADDISON
BELOVED SON, BROTHER AND LEADER
'BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP FOR DEATH, HE KINDLY STOPPED FOR ME'
'Emily Dickinson' I thought, remembering a time when Rin recalled that he admired her work. I gently caressed the smooth marble, a stray tear falling upon the surface.
"One day, we'll be reunited" I whispered as the wind howled.
An uncomfortable feeling settled over me, I felt like I was being watched. I glanced over my shoulder seeing a figure lurking a fair distance away from the ceremony but watching intently. I pretended to receive a call before quickly snapping a picture of the figure before leaving abruptly, not daring to look back. Once I was seated in my car, I quickly looked at the photo I captured. It was a tall figure, most likely male and with russet brown hair covered by a black hood. I didn't recognise his face however...I dialed Evie's number, waiting for her to pick up.
"Hey Evie, I need you to do something for me" I asked, awaiting her response.
"Yeah, what do you need?" she replied.
"I'm going to send a picture, I need you to get the identity for me" I responded before hanging up.
I loaded up the picture, sending it through to Evie. I groaned as my phone starting ringing before answering with a reluctant "Hello".
"Where are you?" my dad growled.
"Um, just at the funeral" I replied while awaiting his wrath.
"Are you stupid!? In case you forgot but you currently have a hit on your back and no false identity is going to help you! I told you to stay at the house and wait for me to come back but could you do that? No!" he yelled.
"I had to be here dad" I muttered back, debating whether hanging up would be a good idea.
"You can't just kill one of the higher ranking Pythons and expect there to be no consequences. I was willing to help you clean up the body and arrange for it to be ruled as a suicide with my contacts in the police but the Pythons aren't that idiotic, especially not Logan!" he continued, his voice gradually growing louder and louder. "You need to be careful and if you don't take out the rest of the members then I will. This revenge is pathetic, I'm proud that you finally decided to take control of the family and knock off the enemy but for a lousy dead Python!? Quite honestly I'm ashamed, you realise your best friend is a rat and yet you still turn up to the funeral!"
"I had to be here! Not that you would understand" I snarled back as I felt my blood boiling as he yelled.
"Don't you dare use that tone with me, I'm tired of waiting for results" he growled lowly before hanging up abruptly.
"Dad...dad" I asked before sighing and throwing my phone into my bag.
I glanced at the side mirror, catching sight of the family gathered for the funeral but no strange figure. 'What did he mean by he was tired of waiting?' I thought confused. I quickly started my car before pulling into drive, I had to get out of here.
