The first few weeks were.... interesting. Sharifa kept mostly to herself. She continued to wear her old clothes, and Griffin had started wearing an old robe around the house. I was surprise he still had any clothes. Sharifa wasn't allowed in the lab so the only time all three of us were together was at meal times. It was nice to see Griffin eating again. Ever since we'd came here, Jack had been obsessed with finding a way to reverse the invisibility. His obsessions had led to him going weeks on end without food or sleep. Despite their chagrin these two were actually these two were doing some good for each other. I rather enjoyed Sharifa's company. She seemed to need the comfort I could offer in little mews and purring. I kind of enjoyed the attention too. Griffin wasn't big on love and affection; science had always been his main pursuit.
Thing carried on this way for a while, until one day Sharifa asked Griffin a question. She snuck into the lab one day, and silently watched him as he mixed some chemical with another and burned them over a fire. I sat in my customary spot on the windowsill.
"Why are you always in here?"
I was surprised that Griffin didn't spill his little concoction all over himself, seeing how much he jumped. "What are you doing in here?!?" He had taken off his robe but I could still tell that he whirled around angrily. "I thought I told you that the lab was off limits."
Sharifa slid off the countertop she had been sitting on, and shrugged. "You did, but I was curious."
"Curiosity killed the cat."
"But satisfaction brought it back."
I smiled smugly, finally someone who remembered the rest of that unflattering axiom. Sharifa's response had also seemed to leave Jack speechless, a state that I thought was impossible to reach for him. As the two stood there face to face, most likely glaring daggers at each other, I decided to hop down and see if I could help make some peace between the two invisible humans. I wasn't sure there would be much I could do, but I was a little concerned that, left to their own devices, a fight might break loose. A little cabin fever can go a long way, especially when the people involved don't know each other to well. I was making my way between the beakers and flasks that littered Griffin's work space, trying to decide what I should do. Luckily, Sharifa spoke before I had to do anything.
"You still haven't answered my question." Sharifa leaned back on the countertop she had previously been sitting on.
Griffin huffed. "And you still aren't allowed in here."
"Why not? I'm dying of boredom being cooped up in this cabin all the time, and you're always tinkering around in here. Maybe I could help."
Even though I couldn't see it, I'm positive that Griffin rolled his eyes. "I'm sure you couldn't."
Sharifa crossed her arms. "Try me."
