-HISKOOL FRESHMAN-
[NARRATION]
Transitioning from middle school to high school is the start of downhill in people's ability of managing stress. Despite all of that, the memories made along the way are worth it.
[DEAN's]
I just moved in a different district in Seoul. This time would be harder because the outcome of my life depends on the work I do in high school and I have no friends to begin with. Transferring is not that bad, all of my friends in middle school were probably fake. As most people say, high school is all about figuring things out like whom your real friends are.
The new house I'm going to be living in is much better than before. I have more space in my bedroom. I'm outside of the house helping to bring our stuff inside. A girl was skating in the distance, but stopped midway. I thought it she was cool, even I can't do tricks on my own board. I walked up to her, and in my mind, I wanted to be friends with her.
[JENNY's ]
My life is going to be hell once high school starts. I have to take private classes after school for long hours. I'm barely getting any sleep. This is all because my mom wants me to be a doctor like her, but I don't want to. I went out today and skated around to relieve my stress. As I got home, and usual, I stopped skating midway and grabbed my board. My mom would scold me if she knew I do skating instead of spending time on self-studying. My board is kept hidden under my bed so she doesn't see it.
"How'd you learn those tricks?" a guy walked towards to me. He's about the same age as me.
"YouTube and I just copied how they do it in the videos."
"You're good at it. I can't even do tricks yet," he said. Looking at the truck, it means he's new here.
"You just moved in? Are you a freshman when school starts?" I asked him.
"Yeah, I transferred. What's your name?"
"Jenny. How about you?"
"Hyuk. Kwon Hyuk."
"See you around," I told him.
START OF FRESHMAN YR
Early in the morning, at 5 AM, I hid my skateboard in the bush outside so I can use it on my way to school. I put on my uniform but wished it was kawaii like those uniforms in the anime.
"Jenny! Eat your breakfast!" my mom called out.
"Yeah, mom!" I came out of my bedroom with my things already packed up.
"You should wear a hoodie under, it might get cold later," my mom said. Even though she forces me to become a doctor, she's a good parent to me and she's the only one I have.
"Oh, right. I forgot again."
I finished up my breakfast, which mostly consists of rice, soup, and fish. I have to talk to my friend so I want to go to school early.
"I'll go now, mom. Be careful when you drive to work."
"Goodbye. Make sure to attend your private classes starting tomorrow."
I waited for her to come back inside the house before I got my skateboard out of the bush. In no time, I got to school since it was close anyway. I searched where my friend was and found her.
