Klay POV

Today, I was taking Meilani out since I promised her that I would unless she didn't give the dentist any trouble.

"Stephen, she said she wanted candy, so let's give her some candy."

I told Stephen. He had decided to come with Meilani since he didn't 'trust' me enough with Meilani myself. I really needed to talk to Stephen about something that happened last week.

"Klay, she's gonna be hyper by the time she's done with it."

"Grandpa, please?"

Meilani made her cute little face that gets me every time.

"No, now come on."

Stephen started walking and Meilani started to cry.

"Lani, don't cry. Papa, is just upset about something, okay?" I picked her up and kissed her on the cheek. She soon blushed and kissed my cheek.

"Aww, thanks."

Stephen was almost about the cross the street until I ran up to him.

"Thanks for waiting up."

I said sarcastically.

"I just need to be alone right now." Stephen said, looking down at the ground.

"Stephen, is this about the-,

"Klay, no. It's not about that. I just wish that it didn't happen again. Klay, your my best friend and all, but that kiss shouldn't have happened last week."

It kind of broke my heart that he didn't feel the same way that I did with him, but I just had to accept it.

"Okay. I'll give you your alone time you asked for. Call me when your ready to go."

I started walking away from Stephen, with Meilani stepping on the back of my shoes.

"Grand uncle Klay, did you and my grandpa kiss each other?"

"Yes, but we're not a couple. Grandpa doesn't see me that way."

I picked her up.

"I'm sorry. Sometimes my grandpa has second thoughts, so maybe he'll change his mind."

•••••••

Stephen had stayed away from me for the rest of the day. Every time I was in the same room as him, he left. I tried to talk to him, but it was only short conversation. Meilani was my only partner that was talking to me the whole day.

Author's POV

"Meilani, what would you like for dinner," Stephen laid out three bags of frozen dinner packages.

"I'll have the pepperoni pizza. Grand uncle Klay, do you want pizza for dinner?" Meilani ran over to Klay, who was playing with Rocco.

"No, I'm not hungry. I'll be on the court if you need me."

Klay walked away and went outside to his basketball court. Stephen watched him walk away from the kitchen. Meilani looked at Stephen upset.

"Grandpa, why do you have to be so mean to granduncle Klay? He didn't do anything wrong." Meilani walked away to "her" guest bedroom. Stephen wanted to say something, but he realized that he was being a little mean to Klay the whole day.

After dinner, Stephen went outside to talk to Klay. Klay was sitting on the bench, tying his shoe.

"Klay, we need to talk."

"I thought you didn't want to talk."

"Klay, I'm very sorry. I know that I was being rude, but the kiss just happened so quick that I didn't know what to do. I never thought of myself being gay. I always thought that I was straight, but I guess not anymore. Klay, you literally have had me thinking about you ever since that kiss. Do you forgive me?"

"I guess."

Klay and Stephen hugged and kissed. They smiled afterwards and went back inside to check on Meilani.

Meilani was just about to grab another piece of candy, but got caught.

"Put it back, Lani."

"It's just one piece."

"You already had too much sugar today, thanks to Klay."

Stephen looked at Klay when he said that.

"Can she at least live once, Stephen?"

"I'm tired, Grandpa."

"Me too."

Klay and Stephen put Meilani to sleep and then stayed in Klay's room.

"Just know that I love you." Klay smiled.

"I love you more." Stephen pecked Klay's lips, softly.

Klay wrapped his arms around Stephen and finally fell asleep.
