Chapter 16

Hey guys!  Sorry this took so long!  Between my health, my job, and everyday life I didn't have enough time to write.  I hope you guys enjoy this chapter!!     

*Lucas' P.O.V.*

"Lexi!"  I yelled as she closed her eyes. I didn't pay attention to anything around me until I felt a hand on my shoulder.  I looked up to see Mr. Matthews looking down at me.

"The paramedics are here to take Lexi to the hospital."

I nodded and looked back at Lexi.  I kissed her forehead before the paramedics lifted her onto the gurney.

"Can I go with her?"  I asked them

"I don't see why not."  Answered the paramedics. I looked at the Matthews

"We'll be right behind you guys."  Mrs. Matthews assured me. 

I nodded and followed the paramedics into the ambulance.  As we drove to the hospital, I held on to Lexi's hand.  Once we got to the hospital they wheeled Lexi into a room where I couldn't follow, so I sat in the waiting room impatiently.

*3 hours later. Lexi's P.O.V.*

As I woke up, the first thing I noticed was the pounding in my head and a weight on my hand.  Once I opened my eyes, I was met with a bright light.  I looked around where I was and realized quickly I was in a hospital and that the weight on my hand was Lucas.  He was holding my hand while resting in his chair, he must've been worried.  I smiled and squeezed his hand, waking him up.

"Good morning sleepy head."  I said as he woke up.  He jumped awake and embraced me in a tight hug.  I hugged him back and hid my face in his neck.

"I was so worried.  I never want to see you like that again."

I just nodded and hugged him tighter. 

"Where's everybody else?"  I asked

"They're in the waiting room.  Do you want me to go get them?"

"In a minute.  Right now I just want you to hold me."

I felt him smile into my hair as he climbed up onto the bed and held me against his chest.  We stayed cuddled like that for five minutes then decided to tell the others I'm awake.  When they came in they each gave me a hug and started talking to me and filling me in on what I missed.
  My dad has been imprisoned for abusing me and won't be released anytime soon, no one knows what happened to my mom, and that I was okay and free to go home when I woke up.  As Mrs. Matthews was about to get a nurse for me, my mother came in the door.  Everybody turned to her and became silent.

"I know I'm probably the last person you all want to see, but I wanted to bring you something." My mother said as she pulled out some papers and handed them to Mrs. Matthews.  As she looked them over mom continued to talk.

"Lexi I just wanted to let you know that I am so sorry for everything you have been put through and that I know I should have given you to a different relative, but I didn't know what to do.  I couldn't keep you around your father and I had hoped that your Uncle had changed.  I hope by giving this to you that you'll find someway to forgive me."

Everybody looked over at Mrs. Matthews who had a shocked look on her face.

"What is it mom?"  Riley asked

She looked up at us and held up the papers.

"They're adoption papers."

I looked at my mom with a questioning look.

"I know that I was never a good mother and that because of me you went through so much more than any child should have to go through.  If the Matthews are willing, I was hoping that they would adopt you." Then she looked at them.  "Will you?"

"Yes."  Mrs Matthews answered right away.  "We love her very much and would love to adopt her."

As they signed the papers I looked to Lucas and he came over and held my hand.  Once the papers were signed, my mother walked over to me and gave me a hug.

"I love you so much and I hope that you can someday forgive me for hurting you so badly."

I hugged her back as I lightly cried.

"I never blamed you mom.  I love you."  My mother cried a little then let go off me and left the room, never looking back.

I wiped away my tears and looked around at my new family and smiled.

"Let's go home."  My new parents said
