I quickly arose and looked around I was in the safe room and not in some desolate land. There wasn't a hot sun beating down on me and I wasn't dehydrated. I looked around and saw it was my sister Matilda who had woken me up.
"What is it?" I asked.
"You got to get up we have school today."
"We have school today? But what about what just hap-," I began to say.
"Remember we aren't supposed to speak about what had just happened," Maddy said with superiority, well as much as a 13 year old has.
"Oh ok well then I better get some breakfast."
I left the safe room and went up to my bedroom and checked my screen for any messages from my friends. I had a few messages from my friends just reminding me to meet them at the Green in thirty minutes. I checked the news feed but it had been cleared of anything about the attack from the Power States. I now understand that that's how to P.F.S deals with any situation. Fix it when it happens and the pretend like it never had happened in the first place. I sighed was this really what we wanted to do, it's not like anyone can completely forget what happened.
I looked in the mirror and relized I was still wearing the same outfit that I had been wearing the day before. My once tamed hair was frizzy and in need of a shower. I quickly brushed my long hair back into a high pony tail hoping to hide the fact I needed to shower. Rummaging through my closet I found a purple button up shirt and a pair of dark blue jeans.
"Marilyn, before you leave make sure you grab something to eat," My mom yelled from downstairs. I quickly made my way down the steps and grabbed an apple on my way out the door. I was able to catch a ride with my dad on his way to work, which was right across the way from the Green. I made my way over to the bench under the large oak tree and sat down as I would any other day.
"Hey there sweet heart," my friend Stella greeted me. Her looks have always made me jealous she had long light blond hair that was always styled a different way each time we saw her, and she had the darkest brown eyes I had ever seen.
"Did Harris get here yet? He keeps messaging me asking if I am all right," Stella said her deep eyes looking out at the harbor.
"No he is probably making his way here now. And come on we all know Harris likes you," I said teasingly.
"Shut up no he doesn't we are all just friends come one," Stella said laughing.
"Hey guys," someone said from behind us. Turning around I immediately recognized Amber, who always had a way of making herself stand out. She has these steel grey eyes and short chin length dark red hair, something very unique in the P.F.S.
"So what did I miss?"
"Oh nothing just that I have to remind Stella that Harris is infatuated with her."
"I don't even know what infatuated means but I do know that Harris likes you Stella," Amber grinned.
"How about we shut up now," Stella said motioning to Harris who was making his way across the Green. Amber and I looked at each other and struggled to suppress a giggle.
"What's up ladies?" Harris asked flipping his dirty blond hair.
"OK no more hair flipping why are you trying to act like one of those old celebrities our grandparents, especially my grandma Ola, would have liked?" Amber said.
"Gee thanks Amber," Harris said laughing, taking a seat next to Stella. Stella immediately looked over at Amber and I signaling us to not do anything weird.
