"Dean!" I practically scream.
Dean is awesome. He's my best friend. He and his family are also rich, which is the only reason my father likes him and let's me hang out with him.
"Hey Alice. Gee, you sure are exited to hear from me. What's up?" he says
"Oh my grace! It's horrid! I'm getting married!" I blurt. My eyes start to water. Dean is the only person I can show feeling to when I talk.
"WHAT!?" He yells.
"My parents are forcing me to marry!" my voice cracks at the end of the sentence. "I can't believe it! I'm only nineteen! I don't even know him. I met him literally five minutes ago!"
All I hear on the other end of the line is silence.
Finally Dean says something. "Can I come over?"
"Of corse you can Dean, my parents love you. Your always welcome."
"Be over in five."
Then he hung up.
I wait patiently sitting on my bed for 5 minutes before someone knocks on my door.
I open the door and fling myself into Dean's arms. I bury my face in the crook of his neck as I started sobbing.
"Shhhh, baby girl. It's fine. It's all fine."
He picks me up and carries me inside my room. I'm still crying into his shirt when he lays me on my bed. he sits next to me and strokes my head until I calm down.
"So what are you going to do?" he asks
"Run away."
He starts laughing.
"What's so funny?" I ask
"Baby girl, you don't even know how to cook. How exactly are you planning on surviving out there on your own?"
"I'll bring you."
"And you think I'll be any better than you? We've had everything we wanted and more handed to us on a silver platter. When was the last time you ever did anything for yourself?" He chuckles
"I do so do things for myself!" I cry
"Oh yeah? What?"
"I... uhhh... I um... I..." I stutter
"See? You wouldn't last 5 seconds!"
I pause,trying to think of a comeback.
"... Shut up..." I finally say.
Dean collapsed in a fit of laughter. I can't help but laugh along.
I laugh until I look up and meet Dean's eyes. We are quiet for a while until I again burst into tears
We talked for about two hours when someone knocked at my door.
"Come in!" I say as I quickly make myself look 'ladylike'.
"Hey," Daniel said as he opens the door, "uh, your parents want you to come downstairs."
"Okay, tell them I'll be down in a minute."
Daniel nods before closing the door.
"I guess I'll leave then?" Dean asks
"What? No. You can stay." I argue
"No it's fine. I'll see you tomorrow." He gets up, then grabs my hand to pull me from the bed.
"I'd love the moral support." I pleaded
"Really. You should get to know him," he walks towards the door. Only when he gets there does he turn around and say, "See you later."
He leaves me alone in my room.
I sit for a few minutes, contemplating whether or not I should go out there. After a few minutes I realised that whether I went outside or not, I would still eventually have to face the future.
I sigh and pull myself up from the bed. I slowly walk down the stairs. It occurs to me that Daniel never told me where my parents were.
They could be in one if the living rooms, or outside on the patio, or in the kitchen. I decide to start at the living room on the left side if the house and work across the floor.
I eventually find them outside.
"Alice! Why don't you join us? We were just discussing Daniels job profession." My father calls out to me when he sees me.
I walk outside and sit in the seat next to Daniel. There are plenty of other chairs, and I didn't really feel an overwhelming urge to gossip with my apparent future husband, I just wanted to please my parents and get them off my back.
We talk for about an hour. Well, our parents talk and we sit nodding our heads and saying "yes" and "uh-huh" at the appropriate times. By the end of the conversation I learned absolutely nothing because I didn't actually listen.
By 8:30 Daniel and I were asked to go back to our rooms.
"Ok... well... good night," I say awkwardly as I stare at the ground "Tomorrow we probably have some sort of bonding experience our parents planned out for us, so be prepared."
Daniel chuckles softly, "I'll make sure to do just that..."
I give him a nod of my head before opening the door to my room to walk inside, when Daniel sees the books on my bed.
"You read?" he asks surprised
"Yeah I do, I love reading! most people hate it and think I'm weird for liking books but it's them that are the strange ones!" I start to rant. I tend to do that when I start to talk about something I love, "Why would people not read? It's so much fun! You can leave your world and enter another where everything has a purpose! What's not to love! I mean... Sorry. I'm rambling. You probably want to go to bed. Good night."
"No I don't mind, and sometime I'll have to drop by your library and see if you have any books I don't have." Daniel says with a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth
"Oh, uh... I keep my books in my room... I don't like the thought of them being kept in a room with millions of other books when they could be in my room being loved" I stutter. I have no idea why I'm suddenly so nervous.
a giant grin spreads across Daniels face. It makes him even more handsome.
"Me too."
