I Need You
Dean had just gotten out of the shower when the doorbell rang. He quickly got dressed into the appropriate attire, hearing his little brother knock on the door.
"Dean, hurry up, I have to pee and guests are arriving!" Sam said. This was Dean's fourteenth birthday, and his parents threw him a surprise party that wasn't really a surprise, considering they told him. He'd just finished washing off some goop from a hunt they'd gone on.
No, his mother didn't want him to hunt or know about it, but when both Sam and him saw her shoot a man then chop off his head when he'd tried to bite into her neck artery, there was really no way to hide it. And so the brothers were taught to hunt as a form of protecting themselves, until they got old enough to start sneaking out to kill supernatural beings on their own. At which point, their parents gave in, rather having them go with an adult than on their own.
But that was all besides the point. Dean was celebrating his birthday today, and that's all we really need to focus on.
"Was it Cas?" Dean asked, running a hand through his hair extra slowly.
"Dean!" Sam groaned, knowing that the main reason Dean had asked was to postpone him getting out and allowing Sam to go about his business.
"Fine, fine." Dean rolled his eyes, unlocking the door. "Bitch."
"Jerk." Sam huffed, shoving Dean out of the bathroom and locking the door. Dean simply laughed, going downstairs to check who'd arrived.
"And Hermione totally saved Harry's butt again, I want to be just like her!"
"That's... lovely." John nodded awkwardly to a young girl with red hair.
"Charlie!" Dean said, seeing the relief on his dad's face as he sneaked out of the room while the girl was distracted.
"Dean! Happy birthday!" she smiled, handing him a bag.
"Thanks, Charlie." he nodded, hugging her. They let go as the doorbell rang again, Mary coming out of the kitchen.
"I've got it." she smiled, walking to the front door. She opened it to see Ellen, Ash, Jo, and Bobby.
"Hi! Come on in." she smiled, and Jo walked to Dean with two gift bags, Ash holding two others.
"We bring gifts!" Ash announced, both of them handing Dean the bags. Dean simply put all five bags he'd received on a table, next to the cake his mother and Sam had baked. The cake was for the guests, he was getting a special homemade pie just right like mom made, with her own touch that made it all that better.
"Is that a Devil's trap on the cake?" Ash asked, making all six of the kids gather around. Ellen and Bobby had gone into the kitchen with John and Mary.
"I call the corner pieces!" Charlie and Jo exclaimed at the same time, beginning to debate on who had called it first as Ash started sneaking some of icing.
Eventually Sammy joined them as more guests arrived. Benny, Lisa, Amy (Sam's friend), Jess (Sam's girlfriend), Adam (their half brother), Anna, and the last one to arrive, Cas.
"Cas!" Dean grinned, seeing the blue eyed boy who was dressed in a suit along with a tan trenchcoat.
"Hello Dean, happy birthday." Cas smiled lightly, Dean pulling him into a hug. This hug lasted longer than all of the hugs he'd given out today.
"They're so cute together!" Lisa whispered to Jo and Charlie, who nodded excitedly as they stared at the two boys and their every move.
"Cas!" Sam said as he walked into the room. He'd left to help set up the movie they'd be watching shortly. He ran up to Cas, giving him a hug after Dean /reluctantly/ let go.
Sam had an appreciation for Castiel, after all, the boy made his brother happy. And though he and Dean bickered a lot, they were still close siblings. Including Adam.
Mary practically adored Adam as if he were her third child, and always made sure he felt as if a part of the family. This was another reason why Dean admired his mother so much. He couldn't imagine a life without either of his parents or his brothers, and wouldn't really like to find out.
"Alright, everyone to the living room!" Bobby called out as the adults gathered around the big television which took a considerable amount of the wall space. Everyone huddled up front, except for Dean and Cas, who sat behind everyone, even the adults.
"I brought you this." Cas whispered lowly to Dean as the movie started, pulling a gift out of his pocket. Dean blushed slightly, thankful that the dark room concealed it. So Cas did bring him a gift.
"What is it?" Dean asked, happy to finally get some time with the boy he really liked.
"Open it and find out." Cas smiled. Dean unwrapped the box, lifting the cover to find a feather hanging on a necklace.
Dean stared at it in awe, it looked so delicate and felt so soft, but when he tried to bend it slightly, it wouldn't budge. He lifted it from the box, it having no weight. It was amazing.
"Where'd you get this?"
"I'll show you later." Castiel whispered back, smiling. "I heard that coming from someone who cares about you, it's supposed to be good luck." Castiel added as a side comment. Dean smiled to himself, knowing this was Castiel's way of saying he's there for him. Not that Dean needed proof, Castiel always had been.
"I like it." Dean replied, before they settled on watching the movie for the time being. Of course, they were snuggled up together.

"This way." Castiel led Dean into the backyard, to that blind spot where none of the windows could see.
"What are you gunna show me?" Dean asked. But deep down, he knew. He just didn't truly believe it.
"Close your eyes, and open them only when I tell you to, okay?" Castiel told him. Dean nodded, shutting his eyes tight. And then he felt it.
He could feel a warmth, and his eyelids flashed red, indicating a rather bright light was in front of him. He really felt the urge to peek, to see what was happening, but he waited because that's what he'd been told to do. Then Castiel told him to open his eyes. And he finally did, astounded with what he saw.
"Cas..." Dean breathed out, seeing various feathers adorning two wings, just like the one around his neck.
"I never told you because you hunt things... Things like me. But I trust you, and if you want to send me to purgatory, or simply kick me out of your life, I understand." Cas told him, really hoping that Dean wouldn't do anything he just said. As always, Dean didn't let him down.
"Cas, you know I couldn't do that. I... I kinda felt something was off, but it doesn't matter if you're not exactly human. You're still the same Cas I know, and... and I need you." Dean said, pulling a stunned Castiel into a hug.
Castiel wasn't so much stunned that Dean accepted him, more so about the fact that Dean needed him. Castiel smiled, leaning into the hug.
"I need you too, Dean." he whispered back, both of them with big grins on their faces.
Meanwhile, on the side, Adam and Sam sat shocked at the revelation.
"An angel... woah." Sam breathed out.
"Yeah... but I win the bet, it's before midnight and they've already confessed." Adam said. Sam rolled his eyes.
"I didn't hear an 'I love you.'"
"Please, you know this family doesn't do 'I love you.' They said 'I need you.', which is the Winchester version of it. Pay up." Adam stuck his tongue out.
"Oh, go to hell." Sam pouted, handing over the money. Adam froze as Sam said this, looking at you directly in the eyes like he was on The Office and you are the camera.
"No thank you." Adam patted his back, running back inside. Sam followed after him as Dean and Cas sat outside, simply watching the stars and enjoying one another's company. This was the best part of Dean's birthday. Spending it with Cas, ignoring the rest of the world, even if it didn't last long.
