Gabrielle
“What the hell is wrong with you Gabby?” shouted Michael, “He was a demon, a DEMON!”
“Michael, listen to me…” she started.
“NO, I thought you were smarter than this! How could you allow yourself to be kidnapped by a demon? I thought I had taught you better than that. It’s a good thing that he had the sense to run away like a coward.”
Gabby stood silently and watched as the arch-angel paced back and forth in front of her. He was still dressed in the three-piece suit he was wearing when he had found her with Cayden, but the jacket was discarded on the couch. He ran his hands through his hair and smoothed a hand over his face, before coming to a stop in front of her.
Michael regarded her silently for a second, before walking towards her. He lightly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and said quietly, “Look, I was going crazy with worry when you didn’t come back from recon. Did he hurt you at all?”
Gabrielle shook her head, “No, he didn’t touch me.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, he did nothing to me.” she said. Michael nodded and looked into her eyes for a second longer. Then he leaned forward and placed a chaste kiss on her forehead.
“I’m happy you’re safe.” he whispered.
Gabby bit her lip and nodded, not trusting herself to reply. Michael gave her a small smile, before walking off further into the apartment. When Cayden had disappeared, Michael had Switched them both back into the penthouse apartment they were staying in. The entire east wall was glass, giving a gorgeous view over the entire city for miles.
She closed her eyes as Michael left the room. She felt horrible for lying to him, but she knew he would never understand the pull she had to the demon. She shook her head and pushed her hair back from her face.
Suddenly she realised that she was still clutching his amulet. She stared at the small charm and bit her lip. She knew in the back of her mind that she should probably submerge it in holy water and then burn it until it was ash, but that thought was overridden by the glaring fact that it had belonged to Cayden. He had touched it, worn it, held it in his hands; it was a part of him. Gabrielle couldn’t bear the thought of getting rid of the amulet. It was the only connection she had to him, and she found herself terrified of losing it.
Michael is so going to kill me… she thought. In one quick motion the pulled the chain over her head and stuffed the amulet under her shirt. She couldn’t help but smile at the feel of the wood against her skin. It felt as though she had been wearing it for years.
The angel closed her eyes and thought back to the flashback. She couldn’t believe they had known each other when they had been human. It was even more shocking that she had had a flashback at all. Once a person was claimed by either heaven or hell, their human lives were wiped from their mind. The flashback wasn’t possible, and yet it had happened.
Shaking her head she turned around to go to her bedroom, when she saw Michael standing in the doorway. She jumped in shock and gasped.
“What the hell Mike? You don’t just sneak up on people!” she said.
Michael gave a chuckle and walked forward, “I want to apologise; I was insensitive earlier. You have been through a horrific ordeal, what with the kidnapping and whatever else the demon did to you. I truly am sorry Gabrielle; I was worried for your safety, nothing else.”
A wave of guilt crashed through Gabrielle. She suddenly felt the urge to show Michael the amulet, he would surely understand. Maybe he would even help her to find answers. She had known Michael for centuries, and yet she was lying to him about someone she knew for all of 2 days.
