Street lamps slowly flickered on, illuminating the quickly darkening street in which the strongest man in ikebukuro walked, alone and silent. He breathed deeply, another day chasing his never ending annoyance, Izaya Orihara. In the process Shizuo had been separated from Tom, assuming his friend had already returned home, Shizuo checked on his brother and was now stamping his way home, releasing his last few flames of anger.
The wind hit against Shizuo sharply, the blonde grimaced at the cold and made a sharp turn into an alley. It was his usual short cut home, shaving about ten minutes off his journey. The downside being it was in a dodgy part of town, the houses in either sides of the alleys usually missing bricks and some low lifes usually attempted to jump anyone coming through. This was nothing for Shizuo however, so he felt confident as he speed up his pace, eager to get home.
His shoe suddenly splashed into a liquid on the ground. A puddle? Probably but it was dark in the alley, and it hadn't rained in about a week. Strange, but Shizuo just marched on, ignoring the unusual puddle. He turned a corner, and froze. Something felt...wrong. He almost turned back around but shook his head, he was acting like a kid and he can handle himself. There was nothing to be afraid of.
Then in the corner of his eye he saw something, odd. Tom? What was he doing here? Tom seemed to be sitting against the wall of the alley, faced away from Shizuo. Shizuo called out to his dear friend, realizing his friend was probably having one of his infamous power naps, he stepped towards his old friend. God, the amount of times Shizuo has found Tom in some strange place napping is almost comedic.
Shizuo grew tense however, every step he took, he called out to Tom. The man still had not awoken and the tension choked Shizuo. Why was he so scared? Finally it grew too much and Shizuo grabbed Tom's shoulder and turned the man around. Expecting to see his friend sleepily waking up to complain of how tired he was.
Shizuo froze and stared into the blank, lifeless eyes of his old friend. Blood leaked from one eye slowly in a steady trail, shizuos eyes slowly looked away from Tom's eyes and now looked at his friends neck. The sight was horrendous. A large, gapping cut was torn through Tom's throat. Rough, unskilled and full of hate. Blood poured from the wound like a river, staining the one good suit Shizuo ever saw his friend wear. He helped pick that suit.
Tom's glasses lay smashed on the floor, a bloody brick also laying nearby. Shizuo remained frozen. No. Tom couldn't die. He was the level headed one. The one that just wanted a peaceful life. One of Shizuos closest friends and he let him die.
Shizuo wasn't there to protect Tom, he could've stopped it, could've saved his life. The world grew blurry as tears softly rolled down shizuos cheeks. He didn't want anyone close to him getting hurt, he was meant to protect them.
And yet he let Tom die. Let him be murdered in a dark alley, alone.
Slowly shizuos infamous rage gripped him as he stood swiftly and began to walk out of the alley. He was going to kill whoever did this. He was going to make sure they didn't live to see the end of the week. But then, he calmed down. He couldn't leave Tom like that.
Also, Tom wouldn't want his friend to become a killer.
Shizuo almost reached out to close Tom's eyes but refrained. Instead he took out his phone and called the police. Then he called Shinra, his other old friend, because honestly, Shizuo didn't know how to cope.
The next few hours were a blur to Shizuo, nothing mattered. His friend was dead. Tom's lifeless eyes wouldn't leave the blondes memory. Shizuo became far more cautous and kept an even closer eye on his brother.
He retreated to his home for days on end with no contact with anyone. What was Shizuo doing? Looking through his texts he had sent to Tom. The last one being from his dear friend.
"Hey you dissapeared chasing Izaya again! Haha when will you learn, anyway I'll drop by later and see ya okay? Bub bye for now."
Shizuo didn't talk to anyone after that. He even stopped chasing Izaya. He simply lingered over the memory of his dear friend.
Tom tanaka.
*after end*
Izaya orihara scowled out through his window. His boredom had become nearly unbearable, his shizu-Chan stopped chasing him and everyone else seemed too cautious.
Also he was irked. If he had known that the man he hired hated Tom Tanaka with a passion he wouldn't have hired him.
All he wanted was for Tom to be assaulted. He wanted to see Shizuos reaction. Now one of his humans was dead and the others were dead boring.
What a waste of money. Shizuos reaction was so boring.
