The 1st of January

He just arrived home from his aunt's place where his other cousins and him celebrate the new year. He had fun and everyone got reunited except his dad could not come from all the work he had to do in some lab in the United States, just across the border. Though the food was delicious and there were lots of varieties of them. Last night was basically a get together and everyone was just catching up on what happened recently.

He reached out for his keys in one of the pockets in his jeans and opened the front door. A bunch of letters spread across the floor welcomed him home.

"I stayed too long in my aunt's house and I forgot to pick these up and read them"

He took off his boots and left them on a boot tray just beside the door and took off his winter coat and hanged it on one of the two hooks on the hallway, one for him and one for his dad. He then piled up all the letters and carried it straight to his bed room.

The letters were mostly Christmas letters that had "Merry Christmas, Cameron!" on them. He loved receiving those kinds of letters but one letter was different and seemed suspicious. It was a black envelope.

"What might this be? Is this some kind of funeral invitation?'

He cut out one of the sides of the envelope and found a black piece of paper folded in three. He unfolded the paper and saw a bunch of text in white, then he read.

"Dwain,

I want you to read this carefully. Gather all the money you have, your savings, your debit and credit card and anything else that can help you buy something. You are going to need them and it would also be better to spend it on something that could help you save your life. Money will soon become pieces of paper that is worth nothing in this world."

He sat around trying to process what he just read, he had no clue of who wrote the letter and where did it came from. He thought that the letter was probably one of those prank letters and it was just full of nonsense. He pondered for how long and starred at the black piece of paper that he now placed on his bed with some message he does not really get.
