Chapter 18
Cheryl's POV
"Do you like princesses?" I ask Lola as I carry her up the stairs. Kimberley didn't seem too keen on Lola seeing us kiss and so i'm hoping to divert her attention by getting one of me nieces Christmas presents out, looks like i'll have to buy me niece something else. "Yeah." Lola almost squeals. "Well i've got a present for you then." I smile. Lola gasps slightly before asking "Really?" "Really." I laugh.
Lola's sat on the bed whilst I root through the wardrobe. "Close your eyes." I say to Lola as I finally find the right box. As I climb out of the wardrobe I see Lola sat giggling with her hands over her eyes. "Okay you can open." I say. Lola brings her hands away from her face and her eyes light up when she see's the box full of Disney princess dolls. Each doll is the size of a Barbie doll and every Disney princess is included. "For me?" She gasps. "For you." I confirm. She gasps before putting her arms out to us, gesturing to be picked up. I place the box on the bed and pick her up. She instantly wraps her arms around me neck and rests her head against me cheek. "Thankyou." She says. "You're very welcome." I reply as I grab the box in one hand and head for the stairs, Lola still wrapped around me neck.
"You honestly didn't have to give her that." Kimberley says as the two of us sit on the sofa watching Lola play with the dolls. "It took her attention away from what she saw." I reply. "I'll just get me niece another set." I add. "Well, thank you." Kimberley says with a smile. "Not a problem." I reply. "So as i've told you, i'm not a great cook. I was thinking of ordering take away but, i'm guessing two year olds aren't really into take away?" I laugh. "Well, ring us a take away and i'll cook Lola something." Kimberley says as she rests her head on me shoulder. "No, i'll cook her something." I reply. "Thought you weren't a good cook. She accepts nothing less than brilliance." Kimberley jokes. "Very funny." I reply with a roll of me eyes. "What does she like?" I add. "Most things. Have you got any chicken nuggets and waffles? Something like that." Kimberley says. "Yeah, i'll have something like that in the freezer from when me brother brought the kids down." I say as I climb up and head for the kitchen.
Kimberley's POV
"Did you enjoy that?" I ask as I carry Lola from the kitchen to the living room. "Mmm, was yummy!" She exclaims. I laugh as I place Lola down on the floor. She runs off straight away and begins to once again play with the dolls Cheryl gave her. "Food's here." Cheryl shouts as a knock resounds through the house. "Right come on trouble. Bring your dolls into the kitchen." I say as I pick up Lola and a few dolls. As I reach the kitchen I plonk Lola down on the floor with the dolls and help Cheryl dish the food out.
"This is brilliant." I say after swallowing a mouthful of chow mein. "I know right. It's the only chinese take away I use." Cheryl replies before shoving a fork full into her mouth. "Cheryl, this one's you." Lola says as she holds up princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast. "Thanks babe." Cheryl smiles. "This one's you Mummy." Lola says as she holds up princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. "Thanks Lo." I laugh. "They're best friends." She says as she plays with the two dolls.
"Pyjama time baby girl." I coo as I sweep Lola into my arms. "No Mummy. Playing." She pouts. "Let Mummy put your pyjamas on then you can play for a bit longer, okay?" I ask. "Mmm." She reluctantly agrees. I quickly change Lola into her princess pyjamas before letting her run off to the toy pile in the middle of Cheryl's living room. I plonk down on the sofa beside Cheryl as she hands me another glass of wine. "Cheryl." Lola states. "Yeah babe?" Cheryl replies. "Will you play with me?" She asks. "Course I will." Cheryl smiles. She hands her wine glass to me and moves to sit on the floor with Lola. I watch as the two of them play with the various dolls, bringing them to life with fake voices and fairy tale story lines. It would appear that Lola has very much 'taken' to Cheryl as she climbs onto her knee before continuing with what she's doing. I can't tear my eyes away as the two of them continue to play, exchanging smiles and giggles as well as the odd hug.
