"-ink she'll be waking up soon, but I can only do so much without my powers. She's lucky the wound was so shallow, although why, that's something I can't explain." I take in a sharp breath, wincing, and involuntarily, my eyes flutter open. A girl with raven-black hair and amber eyes glanced at me, looking surprised when she realized I was awake. I hear a door open and shut with a click, reminding me of something... Instantly, my hands flew to my neck, searching for my locket. For a moment, panic overtook me, as I discovered my last memory of my old life was gone.
"Oh! Looking for your necklace?" The girl fishes through her pockets. "Here you go!" she says, casually handing me my locket. Her face hardens, as if she just remembered something. "So, what were you doing out in the woods when the Phoenix Capital was so close?" I close my eyes, wincing, but I managed to force the words out of my raw throat."I-I was... searching..."
"For what?" she said gently, her whole demeanor softening as quickly as it had hardened. What's up with her?
"My..." I take a shaky breath. "N-necklace."
She looks quizzically at the tangled chain in my hand. "That one?" I nod, inhaling sharply as the pain hit me. The wound in my back was bandaged, I could tell that much, but that couldn't do anything to dispel the agony.
"Oh my Irene! I'm so sorry! I shouldn't keep you talking! I'll be right back!" exclaims, running off. I take a minute to examine my surroundings. It looks as if the room is curved, and then I realize I can feel the bed under me tilting. Wait, no. The whole room is tilting! I take a deep breath, the salty air filling my nostrils. That's it! I'm on a boat!
When the woman comes back, she has a glass vial, filled with a sparkling red liquid.
"I can't spare any of our healing potions, but I can ease the pain with this," she explains, holding out the potion for me to see.
"If you could just roll over, please," she added kindly. Kind of weary of the overly kind woman, I took a second to mull it over before obeying. Carefully, she pulled my tank-top up, exposing the bandages. I winced as she began to unravel them, uncovering my wound. She lay a finger on my back, and unprepared for the contact, I let out a small cry. "Your skin is awful warm... We need to keep this clean. You might have an infection..." I bite my lip, mentally preparing myself as she unscrews the vial. "I'm Aphmau by the way.""Charlotte," I reply instantly, not hesitating to lie. I mean, she's just a stranger, kind enough to tend to an injured girl... Right? I let out a hiss as she pours the liquid onto the gaping hole in my back, but almost instantly, all feeling disappears from that area. I yawn. "Am... in supposed to... feel... this ti...?" I trail off, eyes rolling back into my head. I can hear the scowl in her voice as she mutters, "Lucinda!"
I'm bored, and it's two Am. Shush.
