Chapter Three

At the top of the staircase, stood a dumbstruck Aphmau. "Oh my gosh! Charlotte! What are you doing out of bed?!" She rushes towards me, wrapping an arm around my waist.

I stiffen, out of habit, and though everything inside of me screamed at me not to, I accepted her help. She guided me back towards the room I woke up in, and helped me climb back into bed.

"Stay here! Ok? You need your rest," she says, sounding genuinely worried.

     "Y-yup. Rest. That's what I need."

I watch as she leaves the room, but my breathing speeds up as I hear the click of a lock. (A/N; No, Aphmau is not evil. She doesn't want 'Charlotte' getting hurt.) Shit. See what I told y'all? I'm a prisoner. I manage to slow my breath, trying to think rationally. If I break down the door, I'll most definitely be heard. I can't run just yet. What if I...  And so the process continued, as I thought about all possible options. I ended up falling asleep before deciding on the best course of action, and as usual, I had a nightmare.

"NO! NO! THEY'RE COMING BACK!" six year old me screamed, pounding the ground with my fists. The crowd disappeared, but laughter filled the air, coming from everywhere. Coming from nowhere. "Oh, child. They aren't coming back. But do not despair. They died for a good cause," a voice said. The voice had no gender, and I couldn't pinpoint whether it was smooth or rough, high pitched or low pitched.

I open my mouth to scream, as a tidal wave of blood comes crashing over the familiar buildings of my home-town, but my voice isn't working. I take a deep breath, seconds before the blood covers me, pulling me under. I hold my breath, but fear over takes me, and I gasp for air. Blood fills my lungs, and silently, I scream. I scream, and scream. Then I scream some more. It takes some time to realize, that though the blood has filled my lungs, I'm breathing fine. Meaning... I'm breathing blood. "Yes, my child. This is your destiny. You know this is to be!" the voice cackles, and I scream again. This time, sound comes out. Lots. The voice sounds again, this time shouting, and oddly worried...

"CHARLOTTE! WAKE UP!" the voice shouts, and my eyes snap open. My hands fly to the locket around my neck, and I clamp my mouth shut, cutting off my scream. Aphmau is leaning over me, Garroth at the end if the bed, and the blue haired woman is in the doorway. I hear more footsteps, and a man with brown hair and eyes appears, the other blondie close behind. "What in Irene is going on!?" the man with brown hair demands.

I gasp, realizing I was holding my breath, and the tears start flowing. Always the same dream. Always the screaming. I see Aphmau's mouth moving, and it takes me a minute to realize she had asked me something. She turns to the others, and this time I make an effort to listen and through the ringing in my ears I hear her shout, "Out! Everyone out! Now!"

People file out of the room, but Garroth throws one last suspicious look over his shoulder before shutting the door. Aphmau sits on the bed, looking worried.

"Are you ok?" she asks, straight to the point. Shivering, I ignore her, not bothering to lie my way out of it.

"I want to help you Charlotte. Is there something I can do?" she asks, laying a gentle hand on my shoulder.

I freeze at the contact, and something must have warned her, because she was on her feet, just out of my range, as my fist cut through the space her face had just occupied. The door swung open, and it was obvious Garroth had been watching or listening, as he had his sword drawn and was on me in an instant. He pressed the sword tip to my throat, closing his left fist around my locket.

"DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH LADY APHMAU!" he snarled, his sword point dangerously close to piercing my skin. Aphmau looked at me, startled, but commanded Garroth to back down. He pulled his sword away from my throat.

"Fine. But I'm taking this with me. Who knows what this charm could be? It might be enchanted!" Before I could protest, he ripped the chain off my neck. It was as if a piece of me shattered, and I could feel the tears well up in my eyes. Without my permission, they spilled over, cascading down my cheeks as I sobbed. Aphmau looked at me, not disgusted, not scared, but... Sympathetic? Garroth dragged her out of the room, glaring at me. His message was clear. I've got my eyes on you. I hear the lock slide into place, but this time, I watched as the shadow under the door didn't disappear. If I wasn't a prisoner before, surely I was now...

This chapter might be changed. There were many parts where I feel I did not stay true to the characters, gave to little detail, or it seemed over dramatic. I won't post another chapter until I'm sure this is the way I want it. I'll try to figure things out quickly, but this is the type of crap I make when I'm rushed, so please be patient.
