"Oh the pain is among us Klara. The pain is among us."
"What the hell is your problem, Dan. What happened to you?"
"I'm simply stating the truth. The pain is among us."
He's been like this for days. Mumbling about unorganized advice, telling me stories of his "past." It worries me. He used to be so happy, until it happened.
Daniel and I would dance under the stars and dream big together. We had a secret language, that only we knew. It involved no words. Nothing was said, it was the eyes that said it all, but now his eyes say nothing back to me. We laughed, cried not saying a word. And it's hard to say it now, that I can't think about it anymore. I'm the last, native speaker of our secret language under the stars.
"You should just give up hope, and become like me, Klara. I should be the one you look up to, not them."
"Who's them? I've been trying to ask this question for days, and you won't tell me the answer?"
"You know, them. The people that control us. The people that are watching our every move. The people that have no mercy."
"Daniel, are you off about the government again?"
"No Klara. Something much bigger than the government. Something that makes the government seem like utter garbage"
"And what in God's name is that?"
"Not that, him. The one man who changes everything in one blip of a second. He transforms everyone's lives without us even comprehending."
"Who?"
"His name is Finnegan Knox. He lives on 1784 Chickadee Drive, in Lancashire. You should visit him sometime, he'd sort you out quickly."
"What makes you think I need sorted out, of all people?"
"Honey, you need a little more than sorting out if you were to ask me."
