Chapter one- Paranoia

Welcome back to Madness

Oh please, can’t I have my happy “END”?

It was like the bustling streets stopped, the clock halted their arms and legs, and for one unmeasured moment, the careless glance I did to my right changed everything I had lived for in the last five years.

Our eyes connected, and like in bad movie, a smirk adorned his face, not a day older than I had in my memory and just as stoic.

Damn.

My breathing stopped, my steps halted.

He can’t be here.

A beeping car startled me. My head snapped automatically to the man with his waving fist, his mouth moved but no sound reached me.

Like in trance my eyes moved back to where I had seen him.

Gone.

I rushed my steps to the safe side of the pedestrian way, some drivers still were cursing me under their breaths for suddenly halting in the middle of the street.

Yeah, that wasn’t the most intelligent thing to do.

My eyes wandered around, searching every corner but it had just been my mind playing tricks on me.

This was impossible. Insane even. I sneered in my mind. And couldn’t help but to agree with me myself, not caring that I was sounding schizophrenic,- it was a nostalgic feeling even- really now.

Like a robot my feet found its way towards the sweet villa I was headed to, waving my way through the people who were enjoying the night and the cool air after the sizzling hot day. And several long minutes where briskly walked through the empty neighborhood and its posh homes. I felt like a shadow was watching me- but seriously? Life wasn’t a damn movie. I’m freaking insane.

The orange tinged city sky was clear but no star managed to outshine the artificial lights, it was the downside of a mega city, that and the depressing feeling like the concrete floor was trying to fry you once the sun reached its zenith.

Once my destination was reached, I pulled the keys to Aarons home, the gate squeaked open and before I even had it crash closed behind me the enormous shepherd was ducked beside me in the bushes, a menacing growl came from him making it easy to spot the dog in the dark.

“Hey, Erik.” I chirped, bending down a little to pat his head. A disapproving sound came from him, like he didn’t appreciate the way I shrugged of his menace, but I couldn’t care less.

There was another dog I had to deal with. And there was no way of knowing what would happen once I had this audacious man in front of my face.

5 years for god’s sake and he didn’t trust me more than on our first day of meeting.

Kept me in the dark, took care of things himself and at times used me as his personal little maid- he never really changed that attitude.

Just a step away from opening the front door I stopped, a little smirk playing on my face as I took a left into the garden behind the three story building.

The veranda was open light glowing on the cropped grass illuminating the garden up to the bushes on the edge.

My hands found one of the torches that hadn’t been lighted in weeks, my fingers wrapping securely around the bamboo like staff.
