The Bet

Why the fuck me? I know Casey is mad at me for cheating on her with her sister but still, that’s no excuse for her to pair me up with emo girl! She listens to the most retarded music, has no friends, and I’m pretty sure that most of the time she’s high! I don’t care if I sound like I’m exaggerating; all of it is probably true.

I was in study hall looking around on facebook on my phone when my friend Collin speaks to me. “Hey man watcha doin’ now? Stalking girls on facebook?” He says nonchalantly.

I roll my eyes “I’m looking through my news feed you dork! What do you want?” I ask as I continue to scroll through my news feed. I slouch back in my desk trying to become relaxed.

Collin pulls a chair over toward me and sits down in it and leans toward me. “So what was Casey talking to you about in the hall way just now? I thought you two broke up after you cheated on her with her sister?”

I suddenly get this huge amount of weight over me. I put my phone down and run my hand through my brown hair and look at Collin. “I did. She wanted to tell me who my partner was for this stupid thing she’s doing to get people involved with each other.” I explained to him. His eyes widen.

“So? Who’d you get?” He asks sounding excited. I don’t know if maybe I should tell him or not. He is my best friend but he’ll still laugh at me if he found out I had to hang out with emo girl and get to know her.

I close my eyes and take a deep breath and then open my eyes again. “She gave me emo girl.” I tell him with an upsetting face.

His eyes grow even wider. “Are you for real? Emo girl? Dude, your ex is so out to get you!” He says. I nod. “So what you got to do with her? Do you guys have to date or what???”

I shake my head frantically. “What!? No we don’t have to date! We just have to get to know each other, you know figure out what we both like and dislike. We just have to act like we’re friends, that’s all.” I finished.

A few seconds later, I notice a very devilish grin grown on Collin’s face. I give him a confused look. “What?”

“Oh nothing. I was just thinking; this might be the first girl that you hang out with who wont end up falling for you.” He says. “Considering you’re such a womanizer and all, this girl might not even want to look at you if you tried to pull a move on her.”

“Are you trying to say that I wouldn’t be able to get emo girl to fall in love with me? Cause if so than challenge accepted.” I lower my eyebrow at him. “How bout this, if I can get emo girl to fall in love with me, then you have to let me date your sister.” I state.

His eyes grow wide but then they go back to normal and gave me another grin. “Fine! But if you can’t get her to fall in love with you then you have to help me hook up with any one of your exes that I choose.”

I place a hand out toward him with a wide grin on my face. “Deal!” He brings his hand over to mine and we shake on it. We let go and he leans back in his chair with his hands behind his head and his feet up on my desk.

He chuckles to himself and I give him a glare. “Sorry. I was just imaging how humiliating it’s gonna be for you when emo rejects you. I got this thing right in the bag; there’s no way some girl like her would want to fall for some guy like you.”

He was right. This might be harder than I thought. But then again, I’m Zack Charleston! I’ve gone out and fucked almost every girl in this school. But I don’t plan on having sex or actually dating emo girl; I just need her to fall in love with me and then just throw her off to the side like she’s garbage. Now first things first; go over what I know about the girl. Let’s see, well she has longish black hair; I think her eyes might be blue. I only got to look at them for a second when I saw her shopping in Zumiez the other day. Uh what else? Guess that’s all I know. Well, I guess the only good thing about her is her sense in style.

After school, I went down to the café down Borrow Street. At the time, it was raining. Yes! I fucking love the rain. Always have and always will. But I don’t even know why I do; ever since I could remember, I’ve always thought of rain as a good sign, a sign of luck or life. Sure it looks dark and grey but when a raindrop touches my skin, it feels so magical and incredible. Which is why I’m now walking slower to get to the café because when ever it starts to rain, I always have to be in it until it’s gone.

I really wasn’t looking forward to having to hang out with her but I just have to win this bet. I walk into the café soaked and look up to her sitting at an empty table. She looked scared and nervous, but also seemed like she was strong. Like she knew what was coming for her and she just didn’t seem to care of what might happen. I slowly walked over to her. She lifts her head up and looks at me. I smile at her. “Elizabeth Karter?” I ask. She nods. I pull my hand out to her about to have her shake it when I realize that I just came out of the pouring rain so I quickly bring my hand back to my side. “I’m Zack Charleston,” I sit down in the seat across from her. “Sorry if I kept you waiting, I had something’s to get done.”

“It’s all right.” She replies. Her voice sounded so soothing and caring but it was like it hurt for her to speak. She puts her head pack down and just stares at her feet under the table. She’s shy. But that’s not really what she is. It’s just her little cover used to mask all the personality underneath her. She’s afraid that if she shows everyone her true colors then they might judge her. I grin to myself. Yeah, I’ve been there too emo.
