I wiped the blood off of my lip and gained the strength to stand up. My broken heels caused me to fall on the ground again, and I closed my eyes with frustration.

"My god." I grunted and took both of them off, standing up again. I turned around to look at the house of hell, which I just got kicked out of. "You're an asshole, Wayne." I whispered, and walked down his driveway. As I started to walk back to my apartment, whistles and honks were aimed for me. I continuously pulled my skirt down, hoping maybe the pigs would lose their appetite.

"Oh, Lane. Was it Wayne again? Do you want some tea and cookies?" Mrs. Perry called from her porch as I was about to cross the street.

I softly smiled. "No, thank you, Mrs. Perry."

"I'm telling you, you need to report that man. I'm sorry honey but if you don't soon, I will. I'm tired of seeing you like this."

"It's fine, I have it all under control. Thank you, Mrs. Perry." I pushed a piece of hair behind my ear. "Have a good night." I called out as I crossed the street.

"Bless your heart, sugar. Goodnight now." I licked my dry and bloody lips as I put in the code to enter my complex. My apartment was right next to the gate, which is sometimes a advantage when you're carrying groceries or are tired from your weekly beating, but can be cons when you know, you have to hear the cars driving by or you're the first to get broken into.

I grabbed the keys out of my little pouch and unlocked my door. My two best friends were laying on the couch and gasped when they saw me.

"What the hell, Lanie? Jesus." Bee rushed towards me as I walked to the kitchen to throw away my favorite pair of now broken heels.

"I told you if it happened one more time I was gonna fuck him up." Candi started to put her shoes on.

"Guys, stop. It was my fault."

"No, it wasn't." They both stated.

"Look, I tried to negotiate after I worked. I broke the rules, it was my fault." I explained.

"Mahloni, that doesn't give him the right to hit you!" Bee said as she got the first aid kit from the cabinet.

"I'm fine, Bee. I don't need any of it I'm gonna go to take a shower." I shook my head slowly, heading towards the bathroom.

"Mahloni, you need to put peroxide on the cut it can get infected." She argued.

"Please, just let me shower and go to bed." I turned around with heavy eyes. I could barely keep them open.

"Fine. But if you wake up with a expanded lip, I'm not driving you to the doctors." She threw her hands in the air.

"That's what you always say, Bee." Candi rolled her eyes and I did the same, grabbing a towel and closing the bathroom door. I looked at myself in the mirror and touched my lip, hissing as it burned immediately.

"You deserve this, Mahloni." Said my conscious. But my heart disagreed. My skin disagreed. My beauty disagreed.

I undressed and turned on the shower, waiting for it to warm up. I looked at the tub and realized it really needed to be cleaned. I'd have to do that tomorrow.

I lied in bed, staring out the window at Mrs. Perry's house, wanting to live in a house with a husband who didn't treat me like shit. She had that.

I heard a loud noise and my room started to vibrate. The sound of Big Sean's famous 'I Don't Fuck With You' banger could probably be heard throughout the whole neighborhood.

I sat up and watched as a large black SUV drove by, with men hanging out every window.

"Ain't nothin' but trill in me, aw man, silly me.
I just bought a crib, three stories, that bitch a trilogy." They all sang. The driver is the one who caught my eye. He had light brown skin, some facial hair and huge diamond earrings I could see even from my window. He had a lot of money I could tell, especially by the SUV he was driving. He shouldn't even be driving that beauty in this neighborhood.

I smiled, hoping one day that would be me and my two best friends, not caring about anything because there was nothing to be cared about.

I sighed and laid back in my bed as they drove away. Cause right now, there was way too much I had to care about to act as if that was true.
