: valerie :oh, vancouver, i thought, smiling to myself, thinking about my childhood home. it was always amusing to me how you could grow up in one place and hate it, then you move and the place becomes so much more appealing. boy, i hated vancouver growing up. all i wanted to do was get out of it, and when i finally did, the flash began filming there. it was just my luck.
i had come back for the weekend, deciding to pay my parents a visit and get away from the bustling streets around my los angeles apartment. as much as i loved the friends i had made their, it was always a breath of fresh air to get back.
i looked around. the sun was going down and the streets were getting darker, but i continued to just walk. the streets were almost empty, only few stragglers remaining, or what my mom would call "the crazies." it was peaceful and relaxing compared to my recent nights. after pulling my phone out of my pocket, i frowned. my mom had sent me about 30 texts, wondering where i am and when i would be home. i sighed, typing a quick reply to her.
and as i looked up, that was probably the exact moment my life changed. walking towards me, 10 feet away, was grant fucking gustin. he was looking down as his phone, not paying attention. i couldn't move or speak. i was completely frozen besides the tiny squeal that escaped my mouth. his head shot up, and he stared at me, completely stopping in his tracks. he already knew what happened, and his neutral expression had changed to a big grin.
"holy shit," i mumbled, barely loud enough for him to hear. "you actually exist." he laughed, nodding his head. "can i have a hug? and a picture? how about a picture of a hug?" the words came out so quickly, i could barely contain my excitement.
"yeah," he nodded, laughing. he had a big smile on his face, something you would only see on the candid pictures you search up on twitter. it was the most precious thing i had ever seen. i glanced around for the nearest person walking by. an angry looking old man, whose hands were in his pockets and eyes straight ahead of him happened to be the first person.
"hello?" i asked, as he came closer. he looked up and his expression changed. "can you take a photo of us please?" i held my phone out, as he grabbed it from me and gave a genuine smile.
i turned and engulfed grant in a tight hug, wrapping my arms around him as he did the same. he smelled nice, he hugged nice, and i honestly felt like this was heaven. until the old man tapped my shoulder and gave me my phone back. i smiled, mumbling a thank you.
"you're welcome," he replied. "i always enjoy seeing young love." i began to protest as he walked away, but then i remembered i was standing near grant gustin.
i let out a deep breath before turning to him. "you should follow me on instagram, so you can see the photo obviously." i bit my lip, staring up at guy who was basically a giant compared to me.
he chuckled, nodding his head once more. "alright," he let out a deep breath. "what's your name?"
"valerie kenzington," i replied, even though i figured he would forget. "you don't have to follow me, though. i was just kidding." i gave him one last smile, before looking down at my phone. "i have to go, but thanks you so much for the photo." i headed off, walking past him towards the direction of my family home.
"valerie kenzington," was the last thing i heard him mumble.
