Chapter 1: Prologue
Darkness. Pain. I struggle in the nightmare. Once more, seemingly exactly like the nightmares of the last time I had fallen asleep for a quite long while, a sharp cry pierces the dream fog surrounding me. "Llana," A voice I dimly recognize calls out. "Please, listen to my plea. We've been close friends for ages!" I slightly nod, remembering the voice to be my closest friend in the world, Stella. She sometimes disappears, like this long gap in time before she left again without warning and started sending dreams. "Never forget this: someone is coming for you, as they are for me. This Pokémon's name is-"
I gasp in horror when her dream is intercepted. Although this is nothing to fear, because her dream-creating powers are a bit weak. "HELLPPPP!" A lighter voice shouts, and I'm brought into a flashback of sorts.
A pink pig flies through a barren, broken tower, fear taking over her gaze. The dream-creating powers this munna has are extraordinary! Sadly, her face takes over most of the dream, so I can't see what the pig Pokémon is running from. All I can notice from behind is a miniature flash of red and blue pursuing her, and maybe a dot of white. But as long as Munna keeps running, I can't tell who's chasing her. "PLEASE!" She screeches, and I jolt back into reality.
"Awaken, foolish Llana!" My auburn eyes slowly open to reveal a stout, long creature in front. His underside is pale cream-colored, and his head is scaled green. His fingers and tail and back are green, also. The older snivy has a light green mustache from age. He angrily glowers at me, the yellow, curved shoulders on his sides bristling.
I slowly yawn, stretching my scrawny body. I'm a snivy, too. But my body is much weaker and scrawnier and dirtier. Gerald always tells me that, at least. My reptilian reflection stares back at me through the shallow, clear waters of a nearby pond.
I am short, and skinny. Scrawny. My face is a dirty pale color, which slides down my underside in a curved fashion. Following my scrawny yet slender frame. The back to my head is a more leafy green color, which copies on my thin arms, back, and ripped tail. A dirt yellow color curves down my twisty shoulders. My eyes flash back at the pool in the afraid auburn they are. Yellow, twisted ringlets surround the auburn orbs. My feet are small and pale. And throughout my thin body, the scales glitter. My life traveling has nothing to do with my appearance.
My eyes traverse this small, broken village. Pokemon used to live here. Real characters that laughed and sang and danced as they pleased. Although there may have been few characters here that were like me, and preferred to quietly spend their lives in silence. While I watch the homes in stony silence, a scaled hand tugs onto my own. Gerald's strength stops me from moving another bit. Suddenly, misty purple creatures with bloodshot eyes escape from houses, ponds, ground and fly past us, staring at my frail body hungrily. I flinch at their ghastly stares.
I don't have any friends. Nor do I know why. This world is filled with hate, Gerald tells me. But I don't know.
It was long ago. Very long. Before I had grown and was still a young child. I still had parents. I was still loved. But everything changed in a heartbeat. My beloved parents had taken me for a peaceful stroll near our home. It had been a quiet, still midday. Everything was beautiful in my small eyes. And in that heartbeat of change, darkness swathed everything. The sky; the rocks; the ground beneath our feet. All gone to the dark mist. And I heard bloodcurdling screams that haunt me to this day. Of death. And then they were both gone.
But as much as my uncle hates me, Gerald was sworn by my mother to help me if anything ever happened. Now I live with him. And we don't exactly have a home, but wander and forage. He also tells me that the darkness which killed my family wasn't created by a monster that once roamed this world until forced into sleep for eons. He calls her lord darkrai, but Darkie is another name too. These thoughts and stories of his to this girl scare me.
A haggard old voice interrupts my thoughts. "Llana," Me. "Listen here. I have to share some words with you. Things I am sure you were expecting. So don't interrupt me or else. Not that you would."
I slowly nod to my uncle. As much as he scares me, I know to listen. And the words he added hurt. Because he knows I never talk.
The elder brother to my mom continues. "I hate you," That is a tad too obvious. "Which you should know by now. And I believe we both have noticed that Stella's... disappearance," I flinch at the way he uses her name. "Well, I think it's time to let you go. Dew told me to watch you. You're grown up. Well, I guess not grown up, but good enough for me. Because I am leaving you to be on your own now. But... I should probably watch you go so Dew doesn't kill me later," He sighs.
I slowly blink to his words. Soon, I will be utterly alone. By myself. Nobody else. I can only manage a nod to the older reptilian creature, afraid of what shall happen to me in the future. But I say nothing to him. Even more scared of angering the green Pokemon.
My feet sore and feeling bruised from the amount of walking we have done on hard stone, I wearily walk closer to the jagged, rocky ending of this town, not even knowing it's name. A smirk from behind. I can only imagine what Gerald is thinking now. That I'll finally be gone from his life. He will most likely celebrate in some sort or curse my name, if I know this man. And I do, quite well at that.
"Bye," He scowls in his older voice. "Go away now," I close my eyes, forcing back the feelings he is attempting to get from me. "Good luck finding friends," He snorts. "As if,"
From those words, something inside me cracks further from where it already was. I use the only ability of mine with actual use and leave my uncle. My speed gets me through the deep pine trees which scratch at my scaled face. Away from my past. Away from whatever is behind me. Today has arrived.
...
Her soft, silky fur brushed past tall grass and large stones. She was growing closer to her destination. She only wished Llana could have been here. But that small, scrawny snivy would have to be alone for the time being. She would find someone soon, if the Fates had spoken correctly to her.
The fur on her body stiffened. She detected something in the undergrowth. Growing near. And darkness. Tainting the creature.
