"What is it, Robin?" I ask as I step through the front door. He called me and wanted me to come over as fast as I could. The guys just got back from a trip and I figured they would want some privacy.
"I need you to hear this," he says as he rushes deep into the house.
I sigh and slowly follow. "Hear what?" I call.
I get no response so I keep walking. I find him in a room he claimed as his study and was sitting in a chair with a guitar on his lap. He motions to a chair beside him, waiting to play something. I'm not even seated 30 seconds before he starts playing.
It was a new song. He has some, if not all, the words wrote out with the general idea of the instrumental. It has a deep meaning too. I can't imagine Barry singing this song.
"What do you think?" he asks as soon as he finishes.
I stumble over my words, not expecting to give an immediate response. I finally think of something and ask, "How did you think of this?"
"The plane engines from the plane we took home. Something about it made me think of this."
It takes everything in my power not to let my jaw drop. I can't believe the things that make these guys think of songs. "Have Barry and Maurice heard yet?"
"I told them I had an idea when the plane landed but I thought of more when I got home. Then once I got most of this, I had to call you."
"We need to get this recorded or written down and get a session set up. We can't put off showing this to the others."
He leans over the side of his chair and pulls up a notepad filled with scribbles. He hands it to me and I can find words throughout the multiple pages that resemble the lyrics that I just heard him sing. I read through them, making sure that they all were there. I then jump from my seat and throw the notepad to where I was just seated before getting up. I go into the hallway and make my way to the living room.
"Where are you going, Chris?" Robin asks behind me as I sit in a chair beside the phone.
I dial a number and put the phone to my ear before answering him. "I'm going to call the studio then the others. The sooner we can get in, the sooner you guys can get to work on it."
It doesn't take long for the working receptionist to answer and I ask about our studio. She says that it's open the rest of the week and I tell her that I will call back to set a date. I then call Barry. He was free any day which didn't help me pick a date. I dial Mo's number next and he says that Thursday was a good day for him.
With a date in mind, I tell him to meet us there about 1 o' clock. I call Barry back and give him the information Maurice helped decide on. Once I have both brothers informed, I call the studio again and reserve the room.
I hang up the phone and look up at Robin who was trying to put on a mad face. "Why didn't you ask me if I was free Thursday?"
"Because I know you, Robin. It’s a small chance that you would be busy." He still is giving me the look so I add, "I saw Molly just yesterday and she said that you two had nothing going on. And then I know your appearance schedule, which you all have nothing."
I smirk as he realizes what I said. He forgot about me knowing their schedule and Molly must have told him that we had run into each other at the studio. I'm glad though that I could get the studio and the brothers in on the same day before we were supposed to head back in.
*@*@*@*@*@*
The next couple of days go rather slowly but once Thursday comes around, I'm the first to the studio. I actually was an hour early so I sat there and read a book that I had put in my purse for moments like these.
"How long have you been here?"
I look up and see Barry standing in front of me. "Why do you ask?"
"That's the book you've had in your purse for months because you only read it when you're waiting for us."
"Have you been in my purse?" I ask him. No one really knows about my book because I always get it put away before they all get here.
"I've seen you reading it." I look at him confused so he adds, "A couple weeks ago I came in a few minutes early and saw you reading it. I then snuck out and waited till the others got here."
He sits in a chair beside me and asks, "Is it good?"
I shrug as I put my bookmark in place and close it. "I guess so."
Barry opens his mouth to respond but Maurice and Robin walk in. I put my book in my bag before they could notice and join Barry and I. I see Robin holding the notepad that the lyrics were on and my mood brightens.
"What were we gathered for?" Mo asks me.
I nod to Robin to answer the question. "I've got that song finished that I told you guys about. I had Chris listen to it first and she loves it."
"Let's hear it."
Rob clears his throat and starts to sing the words off the pad. I watch as the brothers listen to the song. They had blank faces. Robin finished and it takes a minute for Barry and Mo to get expressions in their faces.
"I think Stigwood would enjoy it," Mo comments.
"Let’s get this recorded," Barry instructs.
Without another word, the brothers get up and make their way into the recording area. As they get to work, I head over to the phone and dial a number.
“Hello?”
“We’ve got another hit, Robert.”
