"Who's this?"
That was the first question my mother asked as we entered the room. I laughed, but it faded to a smile when the boys introduced themselves. Becca squealed and hugged Ben, causing the boy to go bright red. Ivy and I laughed.
"That's a fitting name." I said. "Jeffery."
"I hear that a lot." Jeffery grinned.
"Who wants cake?" My mom asked.
We all raised out hands, causing her to laugh. When she tried to put the knife through the cake, it was too frozen, causing us all to laugh. Jeffery stood and took the knife. As if he had practice, he slid the knife through it. He smiled.
"If you use the tip and then pull it toward you." He said simply. "That way, most force is on the hard part."
"That's what she said." Ivy snorted.
Everyone beside my mother stared laughing again. My cheeks burned by the time I got a piece of cake. I managed to stop and grabbed a plastic fork. I took a bite and moaned with delight. The cake was amazing! I was in love with vanillia, chocolate and cookie dough. This cake was my heaven. I looked at Jeffery and saw that he was enjoying the cake just as much as I was.
"So," He asked after swallowing a mouthful of cake. "How old are you?"
"Seventeen." I said proudly.
"Cool." He smirked. "I'm nineteen. Ben is almost nineteen, too."
"I'm getting there." Ben said through a mouthful of cake.
"Speaking of numbers," Ivy said. "What time is it?"
"It's only 3:40." Becca gasped. "It feels like it's 11 at night."
"Because there is no sunlight." My mom chuckled. "This place is very dark."
"We can buy glow in the dark stuff at the counter." Ben said. "I was thinking of getting some necklaces and bracelets."
"That sounded so..." Jeffery smothered. "So gay."
"Jeff!" I exclaimed, laughing. "You jerk."
"Whatever, doll." He tipped his chair back. "I'm just saying what I mean."
"Let's go get some stuff from the counter." Ivy suggested.
"First," Jeff leaned forward again. "Let's just combine our money. I've got 25 dollars."
"I have 15 with me." Becca said, putting her money in the center of the table.
"48 dollars." I smiled. "I'm glad it's my birthday, or I'd be broke."
"10." Ivy squeaked.
"I've got 17." Ben placed his money in the pile.
"Alright." I said. "Anyone have a calculator?"
Ben laughed and pulled the money toward himself, "Let me do it."
"Thank goodness someone here knows math." Becca laughed. "We'd be dead."
"115 dollars." Ben said suddenly, placing the money back on the table with a smug grin. "And yes, yes we would."
"Cool!" I exclaimed. "Let's do this!"
As the others hurried from the room, I gave my mother a happy kiss. I followed them and met them at the counter. All the things were showed on the wall. Ben was the first to get what he wanted, which was a pack of four wrist bands. Jeffery got a pair of flashing shutter shades, which he quickly opened and put on. Ivy and I each got an LED flashing binky. Becca chose hers last and got a pair of LED rave gloves.
