Can She Not?

Chapter 5

Audrey

"Aw, hey girls! How was your day?" Shawn wrapped his arms around Andrea and I, engulfing us both in a bear hug.

"Eh, Okay." We said simultaneously, our voices were muffled in his chest. After this horrible day, a warm hug was exactly what I needed and for a split second, his comforting embrace had made me forget about all the crap Catalina has put Andrea and I through and how we had witnessed her being unsurprisingly unfaithful to my brother. When he let go, it all vanished. The guilt of not saying anything about what I saw had made my chest feel uncomfortably tight. Andrea must have been feeling the same way, because when I glanced at her, she had this troubled look on her face that was probably identical to mine. Shawn quickly took notice.

"You girls alright? Something happen?"

My throat went dryer than Catalina's privates. I took a breath. "Uh well, about that...you see Cat-"

"Damn, Dri you're such a blabber mouth." Andrea blurted, cutting me off. My eyes narrowed at her in confusion, and she discreetly winked in return. Shawn eyed both of us with suspicion.

"Okay, i'm lost here." He said.

Andrea let out a fake exasperated sigh. "Well you see, after we went out to get facials, Catalina took us out to shop for your birthday present. It was supposed to be a surprise, but this one, " She shot a convincing glare look at me. "just couldn't keep her huge mouth closed, shame on you." She tsked.

I tried to play along with her story. "I'm sorry I just couldn't help myself. You know I can't keep secrets." 'You're keeping one right now.'

Shawn smiled at all this. "Aw, my birthday isn't even for another month. She really does care." It took everything in me not to roll my eyes so far back into my head that i'd be able to see my brain. "What did she get?" I looked to Andrea for the answer because my mind was completely blank.

"Can't tell you that silly. I don't wanna ruin the surprise even further." Wow.Smooth. Shawn put his hands up in surrender.

"Alright, alright. Guess i'll have to wait, Anyways I just finished a rough draft on that song so i'm all free for tonight, you guys maybe want to watch the history channel with me? In like 15 minutes there's gonna be a two hour special on Ancient Rome. I already made a batch of cookies and everything!" He cheered. It's not like I didn't want to spend some quality time with my brother, even with his horrible choices of entertainment. It's just that I needed answers from Andrea immediately. I needed to know what she was thinking.

"Ah, Sorry bro, before we got here Drea and I were talking about how we were gonna take a nap right we got home. Being out all day takes a lot of of ya." To add authenticity, I tried to fake a yawn. Andrea shrugged.

Shawn had disappointment written all over his face. "Oh well I understand, maybe when you two wake up in time we can watch the rest of it together?"

I smiled. "Of course."

I patted his shoulder and started off towards my room. Andrea followed suit, but not before snatching up the tray of cookies resting on the kitchen counter top. "I'll be taking these. Love you."

After  making sure my door was shut tight, I turned to Drea who was busy stuffing her face with cookies and leaving millions of crumbs on my bed. "Okay, What the hell was all that.!?!" I whisper shouted.

She took one last bite of the cookie in her hand. "Alright, alllllrighhhtttt. Let me explain."
