so, I know I haven't been writing in awhile, but I hope you take this chapter as an apology.
Stepping outside the classroom, I looked both ways. Could walker’s open doors? Probably not. But better safe than sorry.
“So what’s the plan?” max asked, jogging to catch up with me. I frowned, but didn’t answer the question. That’s when I heard someone behind us.
“Hey! Max, wait up!” a male voice called.
I turned to look behind us, and groaned mentally as Zack came up to us.
“Did you see what happened?!!I mean, wow!!What da fuck is goin on??!!” then he seemed to notice me, “Where you guys goin? If you’re leavin, let me come! I was skippin when I heard the announcements, but I-“
With all his talking, we were wasting time. I started walking.
“Hey, wait! Come on! Let me come!” He stepped next to Max, pleading with his face. Really, he was getting annoying.
“Katie, come on. Let him come. He can help.” Max asked, then more quietly, “We can’t leave him to die.”
Dam. He was trying to use my guilt against me. I have to Amit, it worked.
“Sure! Why not?” I replied with fake enthusiasm. That annoying little as-
“Great!” Zack burst out, “Where we going?”
I sighed, not responding.
“Were gonna get some other people, hit the road, and then-“Max looked over at me, “well, we’ll decide when it gets there.”
We reached the stairs, and I headed down, answering Max’s earlier question, “Max, take Zack, and got get Jared, I’ll go get Zoey and Wade. Meet me at my dad’s truck. You’ve seen it right? It’s the big gray one with the trailer attached.”
Max nodded, swallowed and stopped; “okay.” then he awkwardly reached over and hugged me, putting his arms around my waist.
For a moment I was surprised, then I put my arms around his neck, and hugged him back.
“Come on Max!” Zack whined. The jerk.
Max pulled away, looking at me with reddened cheeks, “See ya, Katie.” then he was gone

I stood outside Zoey’s classroom trembling.
Would she believe me? I mean the culinary room had a great view of the field, but I’ve never been in the culinary room. Did it even have windows?
Still trembling, I placed my hand on the knob……and opened the door to chaos…

Max started towards the truck, Jared followed solemnly behind; Zack strode right up to the truck. Strangely enough, he saw no walkers.
It had turned out easy, getting Jared to come with them. He’d just gone up to Jared, told him AND Zack what was really going on, and proceeded to convince them to come along. Zack had been shocked into silence, but for a full minute, Jared said nothing. Then slowly, he reached down under the desk, slung his bag over his shoulder, and followed Max out.
Max leaned against the truck. Now all he had to do was wait. Katie would be back soon.
