Joyce waved to her mother until she disappeared out of sight. Then Joyce sighed and tried to arrange her hair. But the wind blew her hair all in a mess. Cursing under her breathe she closed the window and hurt her finger. “Oh...” Mr. Madison asked, “What’s the problem, honey?” he continued driving. She sighed, “Well, it’s the make-up, I couldn’t get it alright.”
Mr. Madison knitted her brows, “I don’t understand-you don’t need make-up to make you pretty. You are pretty yourself.”
Mr. Madison was right. Joyce was a girl whom nobody could hate. The girls admired and as well as envied her, the boys adored her and the teachers treated her like a daughter. Everyone loved her, not only her appearance but also her talent and patience at everything and everyone.
But she was extraordinary. No, she was different, her eyes were sparkling green, her hair was brown and her skin was glowingly white. She was probably the most beautiful girl. But there was a different fact about her and nobody knew it.
Joyce entered the college gate, this was her first day. But she was too frustrated to be excited because she merely got a chance to brush her hair. She didn’t want to raise suspicion about the ‘mark of identity’ on her forehead. She adjusted her hair over it, last summer she had cut it to bangs but it had grown long. Damn the hair...
Joyce adjusted her college bag and stepped onto the busy hallway. She tried to find the principal’s office but ended in an old and abandoned part of the building. She smiled, wasn’t this a perfect place? In a minute, she was pacing slowly towards a room.
“Young lady, are you lost?” a voice shattered her thoughts. Damn her, can’t she learn anything? She ought to have searched out the place first. She turned around and saw a young man who was looking at her curiously. She cleared her throat and said, “Hello, I am Joyce Madison. Do you know the way to the principal’s office?”
The young man frowned at her and asked, “Where were you going?”
“I...I am lost. I don’t know...how I...ended...in here...I...” the young man’s piercing gaze made her nervous. But Joyce Madison was never afraid or nervous. Maybe it was time she had some human feelings...At last she sighed and tried to find out a way to rid of this.
The young man cleared his throat, “Hello, I am David Thompson. Well...I can show you the office. Follow me.” Joyce nodded.
Joyce entered the room, the teacher was already there. He frowned at her and looked at the watch. He raised his eyebrows and gestured her to enter the room. Joyce walked in and handed the paper from the office to him.
“Well, students...Pay attention. This is Joyce Madison. She’ll be attending this college, as you see. Miss Madison, enjoy your first day.”
She went and sat beside a girl with black hair who smiled at her with discomfort. “Hello Joyce, I am Elena Sharoan.” Joyce smiled, which comforted Elena. Joyce sighed and wished she had been homeschooled rather than adjusting with all these people.
As the bell rang, Joyce pushed past the crowd. She didn’t have to put much effort for she was going to the abandoned part of the building.
Joyce entered a room, there was nobody. She fell to the ground, her bag landing beside her with a thud. Joyce closed her eyes and it began. Life was squeezed out of her or so it seemed. After a minute, she was laying on the ground, lifeless.
