The doctor office was packed and I can’t believe my mom is forcing me to get a check-up done.

“So, what is the doctor is going to do?” I bit my lip and looked at Jeydon

“They’re going to check you to see if anything happened.” Jeydon shrugged.

All I did was sigh, this will probably be very uncomfortable… Man, I need something to calm my nerves.

After the appointment, me and Jeydon sat in the waiting room for the “results.”

“So, Mr. Baker… And Ms. Rene… Um, your daughter… Mr. Baker has no STD’s and as far as we know she’s not pregnant… But it’s still early to tell so I recommend for you to come back in two to three weeks.” Dr. Collins handed me a card. “If you have any trouble, just call me alright?”

I nodded, “okay.”

Jeydon stood up, “thank you. Laci very much appreciates you helping us out.”

Dr. Collins just smiled, “no problem Mr. Baker. I’ve always been quite found of Laci, you know… Well, sorry, but I can’t chat I have to get back to work now.” Dr. Collins turned and walked away.

Jeydon took me home and my mom was at home, playing with Cori.

“How was it?” My mom walked up to me.

“It was… fine.” I hugged myself, I still feel violated.

“That’s good” My mom wrapped her arms around me.

As soon as Jayson, Evan and Trey got home – I took a walk with Trey.

“So… how was school?” I crossed my arms over my chest.

“Good… Your friends Maybelle and Charlotte hit on me, though… They also asked how I was related to you; I told them I was your cousin.” Trey looked at the end of the street.

“That’s probably easier then explaining how you’re my half-brother who found me by trying to find our real father who’s a rapist and a murderer.” I sighed.

Trey chuckled, “probably… Evan doesn’t seem to like me very much.”

“That’s nothing new… Evan doesn’t really like other boys other than my brother Jayson.”

“Oh, yeah… I think your brother likes Charlotte.”

“How do you know that?” I swear, my brother never tells me anything.

“He was flirting with her all day and he has a date with her Friday…Er, well tomorrow.”

I blinked, my brother has a date? “Oh my God, really? He’s so lucky! I want a date.” I pouted.

Trey just laughed at me.

“Why don’t you go on a date with me then?” Evan chimed in, walking up to us

“What?” I giggled. “You’re insane, Evan, you’re my best friend… Going on a date would just make things awkward.”

“But, we could just go out as friends – to like a movie.” Evan tried persuading me.

“In that case, can Trey join us?”

“…Fine.” Evan looked away, he kind of looked disappointed… in an angry way?

“Yay! So, then it’s settled.” I smiled.

“Yeah, it is…. I’ll talk to you later.” Evan walked away.

Trey eyed him, shook his head and then looked at me. “Evan obviously likes you, you should go out on a date with him.”

I shook my head, “that would ruin our friendship… Plus, I think you’re delirious, what guy in their right mind would like me? I’m hideous.”

“That’s not true; I think you’re very beautiful Jacee.” Trey smiled at me.

“You’re lying to me.” I giggled.

“No, I’m not – you really are beautiful and any guy in their right mind would be lucky to have you.”

“Thanks,”- I rolled my eyes –“I needed that.” I turned towards my house, “I’m going home now.” I walked home.

“Hey Jacee.” Jayson greeted me as soon as I got home.

“Hey…” I looked past him and saw Charlotte. “Hey, Charlotte.”

“Hey Jacee,” she blushed and smiled at me.

“What is she doing here?” I pointed to Charlotte.

“She is meeting mom and dad.”

“Oh, interesting! Should I pull up a chair and get a bowl of popcorn?”

Jayson didn’t seem to like my fake ‘enthusiasm.’

Moving on… “Is she you’re new girlfriend?”

“Maybe, it depends… I’m still not sure if she really likes me…”

“She’s going on a date with you, right?”

“…Yeah?”

“Then she really likes you.”

“Is that supposed to be an insult?” Jayson raised his eyebrows.

I giggled and walked upstairs to my bedroom.

So, Charlotte and Jayson are really going out… I wonder if they don’t work out if me and Charlotte would still be able to be friends… Hmm… she’s dating Jayson… She’ll probably be too embarrassed afterwards she wouldn’t even want to be seen.

Looking around my room, realizing how messy it was and how bored I am… I decided to start cleaning up, even though it’s all Cori’s mess, like Cori’s Barbie doll house and car.

I sighed and picked it up and put it away, Barbie dolls are so fake and give bad expectations of beauty… Like the models on a magazine.

“Jacee!” Jayson yelled from downstairs.

I hurried up and made my way downstairs. “Yeah?” I looked into the living room and saw Mason, next to Charlotte laughing – as if he made a joke. “What are you doing here?” I asked.

Mason noticed me and smiled. “I came here to see if you wanted to hang out for a little bit at my house?”

“Sure,” I smiled, “let’s go?”

“Okay,” he walked right past me and out the door – I followed.

Mason led me to his car, a black mustang… Not sure which year. I’m honestly not good with cars.

I got in the back and waved ‘hi’ to Mr. Sterling, who’s driving.

Then Mason got in and sat up front next to his dad.

When we reached the Sterling’s house, me and Mason hung out for hours – watching T.V. and playing games… Until I was alone in the kitchen with his father – Adam.

“So, how’s it going?” His dad leaned closely to me.

“Um… Good?” Why does his dad seem so creepy?

“Can I show you something?” He asked.

Jacee, don’t listen to him! “Um… sure?” But of course, it would be rude not to see.

“Okay, follow me.” His dad grabbed my wrist and dragged me to his room, and then he opened this hidden stairway under his dresser.

“What’s down there?” I asked stupidly, instead of running.

“Why don’t you go down and see?” Mr. Sterling smiled and shoved me down the stairs and closed the stairway – so I had to go down.

Jacee next time pay attention to your instincts and not what’s rude or not.
