Through Elaine's eyes
The cool autumn wind gently brushes back my hair, making me shiver involuntarily. I discreetly unzip my bag and grab one of the numerous hair ties I've dumped in there over the years. I quickly roll my hair up into a bun, securing the tie around it. I don't need a mirror to know that my hair is a complete mess because of my actions.
That I'm a mess... because of my actions.
"That's what happens when you sit next to the window, slut," Yuri rolls her eyes in her seat next to mine, whispering this bit under her breath. She's an A grade student, wouldn't want to get caught talking in class.
Or bullying every second kid apt to be her victim.
I sigh and block her out like I always do. Sure, what she says gets to me sometimes, but this isn't one of those times.
"This project is extremely important, so please do it well," Mr. Haven announces from the front, bringing my attention back to him. "I've grouped you with people so we don't have complications like the last time," he pulls his lips together in a tight line, glancing at Declan and me.
Everyone laughs at this, but for the life of me, I don't see what was so funny about that situation.
Mr. Haven told us to pick our partners for an assignment at the beginning of the year, Declan was late to class as usual, and I was the only one who wasn't grouped with anyone. Obviously, he had to do the project with me, but he refused. He made a big deal out of it, saying I was too much of an annoyance to do the project with.
I hadn't talked to him in my life before. Ever.
That was a normal occurrence for me though. Ever since I was a kid, people disliked me. I don't what it was, or why they never accepted me, but they didn't. That's a fact of life.
Elaine Keeper was to be treated like complete shit for the rest of eternity.
The thing that scares me the most is the fact that it doesn't really bother me anymore.
A squeal from Yuri breaks me out of my reverie. My eyes follow her as she pulls her bag up with her and runs across the room to her dearest boyfriend, Declan Ollistan.
I'm assuming they were paired together for the project. Mr. Haven watches along with me and the rest of the class as she reaches up and plants one on his lips.
The two of them are the worst people in school, but at least the they got what they wanted since the start of the year.
"Okay!" Mr. Haven catches their attention, giving the two of them a pointed look for breaking the rules in his class. Yuri shrugs with her perfectly sheepish smile on her lips, clearly trying to get out of this.
Mr. Haven is one of the younger teachers so he's not all that particular about rules. Yuri definitely had that in mind when she ran across the class. Besides, she's one of the best students, he would let her go with a warning.
He sighs, "Never again will you do that in my class, clear?"
Yuri nods profusely, just before she walks back to her designated spot besides me. The smile is still on her face as her friend, Trinette, whispers something in her ear. The two of them giggle softly as Mr. haven continues calling out names.
I wonder who I'm gonna be paired with...
Will this person react like Declan did?
It was quite embarrassing to be in that situation. I don't think I wanna be there again.
