I looked up, shocked, as the woman collided her body with mine, enveloping her arms around my body. It has to be a mistake, yet somehow her arms around me was such a familiar feeling. It felt as though it were missing from my life.
The woman, I guess my mom... untangled herself from me and took my hands in hers.
"So, Zoggard sent you?" She was smiling but I could see her eyes fill up with tears. It didn't seem like sad tears, it seemed like a mixture of both happy and sad tears. It was as if she was happy to have me there but also knew that it was a dangerous place to be.Unable to speak words at the moment, the man spoke for me. "Of course he sent her! That bloody nog muffin put our baby gil' in danga! He ain't hear the last of me!" He seemed angry it frightened me a little, his wings were shaking with rage, his wrinkled forehead caving towards his nose and yet somehow I found his accent comforting.
"Calm down Daniel! If Zoggard sent her then he obviously sent her for a good reason." She shot back.
After listening to more bickering which I blocked out I finally got the courage to speak.
"Could you please.... untie me?" I asked a bit sceptical of what they'd say. Maybe this whole parent thing was a trap to keep me busy while they send out the general for me.
"OH YES! Of course, of course, sorry. " the woman said quickly and started at the ties on my hands and legs.
"Thanks." I mumbled half sulking.
I couldn't quite wrap my head around the fact of these people being my parents. It couldn't be possible, my mom was pretty healthily alive on earth and even if she did die she could never be an angel, even a light angel.
My dad? Well I have no idea of what happened to him but I sure as hell know what he looks like and this huge giant of a man was not him.
"Nikita..... NIKITA..." the woman half shouted while clicking her fingers in my face, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Yes?" I asked awkwardly, I realised that I was now standing ready to walk, I had to get out of here, I couldn't stay here it might be a trap and then what?
Before the woman answered I bolted toward the door and just before I exited I felt myself being restrained by the giant man, the feeling felt familiar, too familiar.
-----
"Pappa, tell me a story." I jumped up and down on my bed in my princess pyjamas. I did this every night to get my Pappa's attention."Not toni'te poppet, not toni'te, pappas a bi' busy." I couldn't understand why Pappa didn't want to read me a story, he does every night! Why not tonight? It's not fair!
"But pappa!" I yelled, "why won't you read me a story?! You do every night. Do you think I'm too old? Because I'm not! I'm only 5 years old!" I held my hand out showing five fingers hoping it would win him over.
He turned to me and shot me a smile but it wasn't the same smile he always wore, no he was different, this wasn't my pappa. My pappa would read to me and smile nicely like old angels always do.
I frowned while pappa who wasn't pappa tucked me in. Before walking out my pink painted door 'pappa' switched off my light. I turned to my lamp switching it on, I couldn't sleep in the dark. It's when it gets dark that the monsters come out to play and they would tease me and tell me that I don't belong in this world because I'm different. I hate the monsters, they're big fat mean monsters.
"My Pappa would tell me a story." I sulked as pappa closed my pink door. It isn't fair. I want a story.
As I was in a deep sleep in a world where I could fit in I was suddenly woken up by mamma and pappa fighting. I couldn't hear what they were fighting about but they never fought before. Maybe they were fighting about me not putting my spoon in the sink when I finished my yoghurt. OH no, I made mamma and pappa fight. I never ever remember to put the spoon in the sink.
I got out of bed and put my puppy slippers on and walked to my pink door, creeking it open, pappa was supposed to fix that. I walked towards mamma and pappas room but they weren't there so I followed the noise into the kitchen, oh no oh no my spoon!
"Mamma?" my voice attracted mammas attention, "please don't fight with pappa, I promise I will leave the spoon in the sink next time, I promise."
Mamma laughed a little, I don't know why she laughed but her laughing stopped quickly, she looked at me, a look I never saw mamma give me before. I didn't understand what was so funny, why did mamma laugh at me.
Pappa walked over to me enveloping me in pappas big giant arms.
"You'd leave the bloody spoon ou' the sink a milli'n an one times an we still won't ever ever ever be angry wi'h you." He held me tighter in his arms.
"But then, pappa, why are you and mommy fighting?"
He didn't answer.
-----
I got yanked out of my memory by the man yelling."You shant be goin' out there, you'll be slaughterin' yourse'f the moment you step foot out tha' door!" Boomed the man I once called pappa. His accent has gotten deeper over the years...
"Pappa?" I mumbled.
