Chapter 2
Princess Lilly's Part
I let out a sigh as I brushed my tangled hair. I began talking quietly to myself. "That boy from earlier looks strangely familiar. I wonder if we've met somewhere before." I think of the boy that fell into the fountain. I giggled a little. "He looked as if he didn't care if I was looking for a boy for a husband. My father is good with lies." I finish brushing my hair and place my brush on my vanity.
I get up and twirl around in my white dress that sparkles. I giggle, My soft, little voice echoes in the room. "That boy was sort of . . . cute." I smile to myself softly. "But he doesn't look like he has some royal blood in him. He harvests wheat for a living. I sure know a lot about that boy." I smile softly to myself.
I hear the knock of the palace's entrance door. I open my door and run downstairs, taking three steps at a time. I nearly stumble down the stairs a couple of times. My father answers the door with my mother shortly behind him. My parents block my view of the doorway. They back away, letting two guards in the palace.
This is strange . . . I watch as I see the two guards carrying a limp body. They throw the boy's body on the palace floor. The boy's face goes to the side and I let out a little shriek. The body was of the boy's in the plaza.
His face was beat up and bloody. He had a black eye and his hair was matted down with blood. There were fresh cuts that oozed blood.
"Father! Mother! I-It's the . . ." I tried to say. My father cut me off. I tried pushing my way through, but my mother and father didn't let me pass. My father spoke up, "Lillian, you should go to your room. You mother and I have some important business to do." The king snapped his fingers and a guard that stood by the king's throne escorted me to my room. He closed my door and locked it from the outside.
"Let me out!" I yelled as I pounded against the door. "It's no use . . ." I said after several minutes of pounding on the door. I heard yelling down there and a voice that I wasn't familiar with. It must be the boy's voice.
I grabbed a hair pin from my vanity and put it in the door's key hole. It took several minutes before I could unlock the door. I slowly and quietly opened my door. I slipped out of my bedroom and quietly crept out of it and went to the main hall. I could hear part of the conversation.
The king said forcefully. "Why were you outside the gates at this hour?" I peaked around the corner to see my father and the boy. My father grabbed the boy's chin and yanked it upward, making the boy look into my father's eyes.
The boy coughed a little and spoke in a soft tone. "I-I was outside of the gates because I was trying to get back in. Midnight you said." My father slapped his face and I gave a little shriek. He dropped the boy down.
"That's a lie." My father stomped on his back causing him to scream in pain. "Be quiet or it will be worse. Tell me the truth. Why were you outside of the gates? All of the people part of this kingdom lives inside the kingdom!" My father slapped his face.
"I knew I should have never came when you called my name. Your guards should have just killed me there and then. It's better than this hell we live in. A king who doesn't even care about his people."
Don't say those things! It will just cause more problems! The king stomped as hard as he could on the boy's back.
"Father!" I yelled and came out from the hallway. I ran down the steps. I took four steps at a time. I stopped and got on my knees beside the boy. "Don't hurt a normal boy! I saw him today. He got shoved into the fountain! Father, why are you doing this to one of your innocent people?" My father stood there speachless.
The boy got up slowly and stumbled to the palace entrance. "I'll just go and never come back here. Even if I'm Philip James Daniels." He slowly pushed the door open and stumbled down the steps of the palace.
"Wait . . . boy!" Father called out. The boy stopped. He didn't turn back to look at the king. "Philip, I am terribly sorry. I'll help you get better. I don't want my daughters childhood friend hurt!"
"If it was some other person you wouldn't care. Am I right?" My father became speechless. That's when I decided to speak up for his sake.
"I care about you, Philip. If I didn't then why did we have the whole ceremony? Why did you come back if you didn't want to see me again?"
Philip spoke. "Quit lying to yourself. Even if you're the princess, I still won't follow your orders." I began to feel betrayed. "And this is the first time I actually saw you or talked to you." My heart began to ache. "Good night, King, Princess." He stumbled more down the steps.
I ran and caught up to him at the bottom of the steps. I grabbed his shoulders and turned him around. I hugged him tightly. I said through tears. "Don't say those things, Philip! You saw me 6 years ago! Why won't you accept the truth?" I began to sob in his chest.
Philip hesitantly hugged me. He hugged me softly. He whispered into my ear. "Why would you care about a useless peasant? Tell me why."
"It's because I love-"
"Get your hands off of my daughter!" the king yelled. Philip lets go of me and walked slowly away. I ran to him. I turned him around and kissed his cheek quickly. My father stood there alarmed.
Philip's eyes widened. I pulled back after a few seconds. "Now do you believe that I care?" I blush a little. My father crossed his arms and smiled.
"Welcome back, Philip." My father said. "If you don't mind coming inside with us, we would like to catch up on things." I walked beside Philip, still blushing like crazy. I walked up the steps of the palace. I trip on a few steps. I begin to fall, but Philip grabs me before I fell.
"I don't want the princess hurt." Philip said. He smiled at me and helped me up. We walked up and entered the entrance to the palace. We sat down at the table. I sat down beside Philip.
The problem was we didn't know what was going to happen next to cause the problems we will soon have.
