                                                                        Philip's Part

I was at the age of 16 when I saw Princess Lilly for the first time.

I am Philip, also known to everyone as the worthless peasant around here. I have light ash colored hair with a medium tan. I got my hazelnut brown eyes from my mother. I stood at five feet, nine inches without any shoes on. My clothes were always torn from the hard work in the crops that we grew. We barely had enough food for us to live on. I live on the outskirts of a kingdom named Lilinthia. My father had left my mother to care for me here when I was five years old. I remember that day as if it were yesterday.

I was working in the crops like any other day in my torn leather tunic, when a group of people passing by were talking about Princess Lily. One of them with shadow black hair said, "Haven't you people heard? Princess Lilly has to choose who will be the next king, after her father is gone, of course, and even be her husband."

"No way! You are lying to us." another person with red hair said. I found myself stopping my work and started listening on their conversation.

"If you don't believe me, then go see her yourself tomorrow afternoon at exactly twelve at the Grand Plaza!" the black haired person said. "Hey, peasant boy! Get back to work and stop day dreaming. We'll need the wheat and corn for the royal family! By the way, if you're thinking about the princess, good luck becoming a prince!" They started to laugh hysterically as they walked off away down the rock path.

My mother must've heard them talking to me that way. She came out of the wooden cabin of ours with a furious expression on her face. "You'll make a perfect husband for Princess Lilly." Mother said patting me on the back. "Don't worry, son. You're perfect for her.

"Thanks." I replied. I waited for her to leave before I started to swing the hoe again. I would never be a perfect husband for her. I've only seen her once, and that was when I was ten years of age. Who knows how much has changed since then. There's only one way to know for sure. That is to go to the plaza myself tomorrow.

I woke up after the hard day of work yesterday on the bed of mine. My bed is a blanket on the bottom of me and a thicker blanket on top of me. Today was the day of seeing the princess. I got up and picked out my best clothing I have. It was a pair of black slacks and a white shirt with buttons running down the middle of it. I washed my hair and fixed it nicely. I walked outside and breathed in the summer air. Today will be my lucky day, I hope.

I walked to the plaza quickly. I arrived there pretty fast, but I was probably one of the last ones there. The Grand Plaza is probably the nicest place in this kingdom, other than the palace itself. It has a water fountain that shoots water out of the top and sides of the holes in the quartz pillars.

I heard horses galloping in the distance. That must be her. I thought to myself. Two horses, both white stallions with yellow manes, were pulling a snow white carriage with pink outlines and big wooden wheels.

The mob of people that were waiting for the arrival of Princess Lily made room for the carriage to get to the edge of the fountain. The carriage came to a stop abruptly. The door slowly opened. I couldn't see the princess because the door was in front of her as she stepped out. I saw her snow white skin. I saw her face and my heart litterally skipped a beat.

Her face was a true beauty. She has  ivy green eyes, two little dimples, a small mouth with rosy red lips, and her cute smile was just like a child's. Princess Lilly had her caramel hair with slight curls that went on her shoulders. She wore a white laced dress that had pink outlining it. The dress looked a lot like the carriage itself.

She stepped fully out of the carriage. People started shoving people around to get near her. People started bumping into me causing me to lose my balance and fall backwards. Since I stood in front of the plaza's fountain, I fell backwards into the fountain. My clothes instantly got soaking wet.

The people in the plaza laughed and splashed more water on my as I got up and out of there. The princess looked at me in the corner of her eyes. She continued walking ahead, up the steps and sat in between her father and mother. Or what I should say, the king and queen.

I began walking away from the plaza to my home when the king began talking.

"Everyone, may I have your attention?" The king said. Everyone stopped chattering and moving and looked up at the king, queen, and princess. "My dear daughter, Lillian, or Lilly for short, isn't actually here looking for marriage." The people began to chat again. They began to worry.

How did I know? I smirked to myself as I walked away slowly from the plaza. The king continued to talk. "Attention!" The people stopped and looked at him again. "She had a childhood friend that she is wanting to be reunited with. It's been six long years without seeing him." The crowd chuckled a little. "His name is . . ." The king paused for a second and the princess whispered in his right ear. "Philip Daniels."

I stopped in my tracks, not looking or turning around. I looked in the same direction of my house.

"Philip Daniels, I know you're out there. Princess Lillian will know what you look like. Come here at 12:00 exact tonight. She'll be here tonight. She'll wait all night for you if she has to. If you don't show up, then we'll know that you are gone. If you are out there, please come to my daughter tonight. Do it for her. No. Do it for my whole family."

I walked quickly to my house. I talked to myself out loud. "This is cruel. Thinking they can pull a joke on a peasant boy that does hard work all the time while they get to sit on their lazy bums." I kicked pebbles hard against the side of the house.

My mother came out of the house with a big grin on her face. She began asking me questions quickly. "Who is Princess Lilly's new husband? Is it you? When's the first date? I knew you two were perfect for-"

"There isn't a husband for her, Mother! She just wanted to see a childhood friend. That is all, Mother." I walked into my room and got changed into different clothes since mine were soaking wet. I got into a normal day shirt. I laid down on the blankets for my bed and closed my eyes.

I woke up several hours later. It must have been about 11:00 at night. I yawned and got up out of "bed" and quietly crept outside to the plaza. I made my way there slowly, walking on the dirt path to the kingdom since I lived on the outskirts of the kingdom. As I approached the guarded gates of the kingdom, one of the guards threw me to the ground. He pushed my face to the ground with one hand, causing me to look to the side, and pinned me down with his other hand and pinned my arms behind my back.

My breath escaped my lungs when he stomped on my back. I cried out in pain, but the other guard covered my mouth. The guard that was covering my mouth punched me in my face. It caused my vision to get all wavy. He punched me right in my side where I screamed out loud with his hand muffling as much as it could of my scream as my vision darkened. I slowly passed out, drifting farther into the darkness.
