"SELENA."
I couldn't tell whether I was dreaming or not, but someone was saying my name and saying it with urgency. I felt something then, like someone was shaking me. It made the pounding in my head intensify and I snapped my eyes open so I could see what it was. I came face to face with a pair of wide brown eyes staring back at me.
Once he realised I was awake, he moved away from me, his face turning a very subtle shade of pink. I managed to sit up, my back ached and I held my head as I tried to stand up. I remembered Arthur, the button in his hand, him pressing it and the pain that exploded throughout my body, rendering me helpless. I was lucky I wasn't brain dead.
Theo rushed to help me stand up, his hand lightly draped around my waist trying to secure me, "You okay?" He said, probably one of the stupidest questions he could have asked, but I appreciated him asking anyway.
I nodded, my eyes drifting to the wall where Arthur was still laying slumped on the ground, his chest moving up and down. I ignored the pain and moved out of Theo's grasp, picking up the knife that was on the floor and tucked it into my back pocket.
"We need to leave now." I said, grabbing his wrist and pulling him along with me to the door to exit the room. He pulled out of my grasp.
"Don't you think I should be the one with the knife, considering the fact I don't have the ability to throw people against walls." He told me, holding his hand out for the knife I was holding tightly in my fist. I guess he had a point, he had nothing to use to protect himself. I dropped the knife into his outstretched palm, my eyes never leaving his and he closed his fist around the hilt.
He mumbled a "thank you" before he moved in front of me to open the door. He looked out of the door, his tall frame obscuring my view, before quickly shutting the door and turning around to give me a panicked glance.
"There's about three armed guards standing outside this room right now." He had his back pressed against the door, eyes wide with adrenaline.
I opened the door just a crack and peeked through the small slit in the door. He was right, there were three armed guards outside the room. One of them was standing opposite the door with his back turned, guarding the door to the exit. Another one was situated to my right, his eyes looking slightly glazed over, and more importantly he wasn't paying attention. The other one however held his gun with purpose, he was standing right next to the door I was peeking out of, that's why I made sure I quietened my breathing and was careful to make sure the door made no noise upon opening.
I moved back and caught eye contact with Theo, "I have an idea."
He raised an eyebrow, "If it involves you or me getting killed in the process, it's a no from me."
I rolled my eyes, moving towards him to grab the knife he was clasping tightly in his hands.
"What are you doing?" I folded my hands around the knife and he hesitantly let go, his face contorted into one of confusion.
"It's a part of the plan." I held the knife tightly, running through the plan in my head and the amount of things that could go wrong. I was going to stab the guard that was standing outside of the door with the knife first, with him out of the way I could easily fight off the one that looked like he was about the slump onto the floor and sleep. That left the one guarding the door to the exit. I would have to leave that one to Theo, I wasn't sure how much of my life I could put into his hands, but he was my only choice.
I relayed the plan to Theo, watching his eyebrows furrow and his jaw clench as I explained what was going to happen.
"Are you crazy? What if you go to stab that guard and he reacts quickly and shoots you, or if you do manage to stab him and alert the other guards that shoot you. It seems a little redundant if you ask me, and also it would leave you very dead, which I'm not going to let happen." Theo exhaled at the end, running his fingers through his messy hair, rendering it even more messy. I averted my gaze from his hands in his hair and instead to his eyes. I didn't really care what he said, the plan was going to happen one way or another, I didn't see any other way of us getting out of here. He just needed a little bit of persuasion.
