Its been an entire year.
Dan had decided to pretend Phil was gone.
And for once, his parents believed him.
Now Phil would do most of the talking when his parents were within hearing range.
But when they were alone, they talked non stop.
Something to add, was that he and the real Phil had started talking when he got out of the mental institution last year.
It started with chatting online. Today would be their first video chat.
Would Phil recognize him like Dan did?
Or would he be indifferent and it was all fake, like he's been told.
He sat I front of the computer, tapping nervously at the keyboard as he waiting fir Phil to send him a message.
His Phil stood behind him, also waiting to see what would happen.
"Don't be nervous, Dan. If he's anything like me, then you're fine." Phil told him.
"Phil, I'm pretty sure he is you." Dan replied.
There was a bleep from his computer. Phil had sent him a message.

Hey, you ready?

Dan took a deep breath before replying.

Yes.

As soon as it had sent, he got a video call.
Holding his breath, he answered.
The familiar face appeared on the screen with a smile.
Suddenly his have turned to that of shock.
"D-Dan?"
Dan gave an awkward wave. 'Hello."
Phil turned and looked somewhere off the screen. "Dan." he turned back to the screen. "And Dan?"
Dan looked at Phil who stood next to him, realization hitting him. Could Phil see him like Dan saw him?
He turned to look at his screen where Phil was still looking between Dan and Dan off screen.
"Phil. Have you been seeing me for practically every day of your life, but Jo one else can?"
Phil dully nodded as he stared at Dan before breaking into a smile.
"I knew you her real! No one believed me! We have to get together."
Dan grinned. "We can prove everyone wrong."
Dan saw both Phils smile.
"When are you free?"

It was two days later before either of them could meet.
Phil's mum had made another appointment with a doctor near Dan's hometown.
Dan was waiting at the park where they had planned to meet, bouncing his leg up and down nervously.
"Don't be nervous Dan. I'm sure it'll be fine." His Phil told him.
Dan just nodded as a car pulled into the parking lot. Through the windshield he could see a familiar face in the passenger seat.
The door opened and Phil came out of the car, immediately seeing Dan and waving.
Dan stood up and waved as he began walking towards him to meet his friend halfway.
As they need each other, the car started to pull out and leave.
"Dan!" Phil called out.
Behind Phil he could see himself just a few steps behind Phil.
He could see Phil next to him, also looking at his double.
"This is strange." Phil said.
The two doubles smiled as they slowly began to fade. "Have fun." they both said before they completely disappeared.
The two stared at the spot their clones were, all that was left was a small piece of paper.
Phil picked it up and opened it, reading what was written inside.

"Dear Dan and Phil,
You must both be wondering what is happening.
This will explain it all.
You are both soulmates. Meant to be. But there was a high chance, too high, that you would not meet.
And that would have ruined the balance.
So those who have a high chance of not meeting their soulmate have them in their head.
Only they can see them.
Doing this will ensure that you will go searching for the other, and you both meet and there is still balance.
Have a happy life.

Dan looked at Phil and grinned, an eyebrow raised. "Soul mates, eh?"
Phil grinned. "Nice to meet you, soulmate."
"Come on. There's an ice cream shop jot for from here. Maybe we could call it our first date."
Phil grinned as they started walking side by side, their shoulders and hands touching.
"That sounds nice." Phil said as he lightly held Dan's hand as they continued walking.
And to everyone that saw them, they looked like they have always known each other.
And they have.
