Do you believe in Christmas Miracles?
Christmas is coming. Lights are glimmering and everyone smiling. People might think of Christmas as the season to be happy, to love. But for me, it is the dreadful day that everything I have disappeared. The only man I loved taken by the snow.
It's 2 PM, approximately ten hours before Christmas and here I am typing and doing my work as an editor in a magazine studio. All of my co-workers left getting ready for Christmas eve.
Well, it's not like I'm going to celebrate it. I have nobody.
"Aren't you going home Jun?" Said a girly voice behind me.
I turned to look around and was surprised that it was our boss.
"Good afternoon ma'am, it seems that I won't be coming home since I left a lot of work unfinished last month," I said still focused on my work.
"Oh? It's Christmas! It's the season of happiness and wishes," she said focusing her gaze on my face.
"You're a cutie yourself, a cutie like you must have someone waiting for you at home, ain't ya?" She added with a malicious grin.
"Sorry to break your fantasies but I have nobody," I replied with a smile.
"What a waste," she said, disappointment evident in her voice.
I was still rummaging through the keys and my gaze is still fixed on the screen. I just hopethat my boss will give up already. I don't want to be bothered while I'm working.
"Oh! I have an idea. Why don't you find someone to keep you company tonight? Leave your work and you can always continue it tomorrow or the other day or the other day," she said cheerfully. The luxury of being a boss in a nutshell.
"And instead of drowning yourself in work I suggest that you go to this pub. Think of it as a field work," she added as she handed a small, strange-looking card.
"What is this for?" I asked startled and still confused by how my boss is acting, because usually she is the perfectionist type and she doesn't want to see her staff dozing off into space. Is this what they call a Christmas Miracle?
"Give that to the bartender and she will give you a discount on a rather 'special' drink," she said with a wink.
"What if I don't wanna go?" I asked.
"You will lose your job," she said with a stern look on her face.
I let go a deep sigh as I started to pack my things from my desk and reached out for my scarf and pair of gloves. I have no choice since my boss ordered me to go. I don't have any plans for today anyways.
"Good luck, and have fun!" She exclaimed as I reach the exit of our office.
I left the office without even fixing myself. My hair is shaggy and my eyes are heavy. I really prefer a good sleep instead of going to some random pub.
Also, it is starting to really irritate me by how people change when Christmas is coming. My boss is so strange today, actually, everyone's strange. All these lights, all these smiling and all these laughing. Its really annoying and depressing to know that majority of the earth's population is having fun and enjoying their loved one's company while you're rotting alone in the cold and dark snow.
I was calling for a taxi and before I knew it, it was snowing. White flakes of snow started to fall, slow and calm in motion. Remembering a snowy night makes me teary, for it is snowing when it happened. I eyed every flakes of snow as they fell to the ground, trying to stop myself from crying.
