“I’m back!” I sing as I walk back into the kitchen.

“Finally! Sure took you long enough to walk to the end of my two inch driveway.”

Aunt Jayne replies, setting a second plate of pancakes on the kitchen table.

“Sorry,” I say “I was talking to Niall.” I say, ignoring my Aunt’s overly-happy expression.

“Well that’s nice.” Aunt Jayne says with false innocence in her tone. When I look at her, she smiles slyly and puts a forkful of pancakes in her mouth “So what does the mail look like today?”

I shrug “Nothing really, just a few bills and this manilla envelope.”

Ain't Jayne reaches for the envelope. "Those must be the new cover layouts for the magazine." She says pulling four glossy prints out of the envelope.

The covers all have various families seemingly having the time of their lives together. Imposed over each picture was the magazine’s name; “Enjoying Family Life”.

“Isn’t it ironic?” Aunt Jayne asks “I mean, I’m a 40-something year old women with no kids and no successful relationships thus far, and yet I’m the editor for a family living magazine.”

“It’s not too late!” I tease and laugh at the horrified expression that comes across her face.

Aunt Jayne’s never been one to be tied down. When I was a kid, I learned quickly not to get attached to Aunt Jayne’s gentleman friends, as they would never be around for long. As for children, Aunt Jayne’s never wanted any. She doesn’t feel that she is the “motherly type” and believes that having children isn’t what she’s living for, personally.

I always used to ask her when it’d be her turn to have a baby and Aunt Jayne would just stroke my hair and say “I don’t need a baby. I have my beautiful niece!”.

No offense to Aunt Jayne, but I wouldn’t want to live the life she does. Sure, she gets to travel and see the world, but it can’t be very fun at the end of the night when you’re all alone.

“I still feel bad that I won’t be able to spend any time with you today, but I have to finish up some stuff for work. Hey, maybe you and Niall can make some... plans.” She makes sure to emphasize the word 'plans'.

I nod “I mean we are going to get my car fixed today, so, there you go I guess.” I

say, twirling my hand in the air and taking a bite of my breakfast.

Aunt Jayne scoffs “That’s not what I meant by -” She begins in a sing-song voice.

“I know what you meant and that’s all the plans we have today.” I say teasingly shoving her shoulder “What’s up with you playing matchmaker anyway?”

Like I said before, Aunt Jayne’s never really been one to embrace the idea of serious relationships.

Aunt Jayne clasps her hands together around mine and holds them close to her chest.

“Because you and Niall were just the cutest little friends ever and you would be absolutely perfect  together now!”

“Aunt Jayne, how do you even know he has any feelings for me? He had a crush on me when we were eleven and twelve, big deal.” I say, trying to rid myself of the window of hope Aunt Jayne keeps giving me.

“But how do you know he doesn’t?” She points out.

“Because...I just… he’s Niall Horan. He is Niall of One Direction and I am Amelia of UCLA and those are two totally different things and even if we did end up liking each other, it’d never work because he tours and I don’t live in Europe and he has girls throwing themselves at him day and night that are unique and exciting and freaking beautiful and he could choose from any one of them so why would he even consider me?”
