AN: Hi guys, this is my first story with zombies. Hope you enjoy. I will be adding to it whenever I possibly can. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Comments make me happy <3

Prologue:

Citizens of Blackbeach Haven, we are currently undergoing a class two zombie break out. Please remain calm. We are performing pre-evacuation measures. Gather these items: any defensive and offensive weapons available, any preservable foods, one gallon of water per person, and an emergency flashlight. After this, please board up your homes and do not leave unless it is absolutely necessary. Most importantly, do not get bitten or try to hunt them. The matter is being taken care of as we speak. Trust your government...we know what we're doing.

Chapter one:

I crumpled the letter up and tossed it behind me, landing it in the trash bin of my bedroom. Zombies? Please. It was obviously just some joke; the dead wouldn't just come back to life and attacking the living for no reason. I grabbed my school bag and made my way out just like any other day. The sun wasn't completely up, and it looked like storm clouds were rolling in. It gave me a kind of gloomy feeling. As I walked down the small road to my school, I heard another set of footsteps. An air of eeriness came over me and I picked up the pace, not daring to look back. A horrible knot formed in my stomach as the footsteps became louder and faster. I hand clamped down on my shoulder and I screamed so high pitched anyone within a mile of us would've gone deaf for about thirty seconds. My eyes closed tight as I waited for the worst to happen, but it never came. Slowly, I turned around to see my best friend on the floor. Laughing.

"Luna!" I yelled at her, a hand over my chest. "You nearly scared me to death!"

"You should have...should have seen your...your face, Skylar!" Luna managed to choke out between fits of laughter.

"Never do that again, I thought you were--"

"What, a zombie? Don't tell me you believe that stupid letter?"

"Of course not. It's obviously a joke and a way for our government to tax us some more for who knows what. Zombie extermination gear or something of that sort."

"Well, let's get to school."

I agreed and we began walking, chit-chatting about the stupid letter and making jokes about it. When we arrived at the front gate of our school, I immediately noticed about twenty percent or so missing. Did they really take that letter so seriously that they would stop their daily life to board up at home? Wow, I was shocked.

"Looks like the tweaker didn't get too scared about what's going on. I could have sworn he wouldn't have shown up," Luna said and pointed over to a corner.

I looked over to see a boy with short black hair and pale skin. He looked like he was muttering to himself. I recognized him as a fellow senior, Darius Long. It was rumored that he had a long history of drug abuse since middle school and was a total nut case.

Continuing to look around, I was surprised to see Sarah Clark, a preppy blonde cheerleader. She was sitting on a bench with some jocks surrounding her while she filed her pretty little nails. I nearly gagged as she shook her long hair around, trying to catch any bit of attention should could.

The bell rang for our first class so Luna and I headed off to anatomy. Our friend Angel met us there and we took a seat in the back. It looked like our teacher was out sick, so we were stuck with a rather large and purple old woman who smelled like cottage cheese. All the way up until the late bell rang, I listened as the roomed was filled with talk about the letter that was sent out. Some didn't believe it at all, some did and said they were forced by their parents to go to school, and others were stuck in between.
