Maria

I stared at her openmouthed. "Wha...wh...ma...you...huh?"

I was so dumbstruck I couldn't form a decent sentence. Jamie sniffled as a single tear streaked down her cheek.

"Mason met another girl. Apparently he likes her better because he was two-timing me. And," She looked at the hall clock. "He decided about five minutes ago that he should tell me so he can make out with her all summer and not feel guilty about me."

I looked at Jamie. I was fuming. That doesn't even begin to cover it. Mason Lansing was going to die. I didn't mean that literally but oh man that boy was gonna get it. I grabbed Jamie, maybe a bit too roughly for the state she was in, by the elbow and we make out way down to the first floor where I saw Mason leaving through the lunch room doors like he did regularly.

"MASON!" I screamed it so I wasn't all that surprised that he looked kind of scared when he turned to face me. "What the freaking hell is stuck up your ass?" Ok so I'll admit I do have an teensy bit of a language problem. But I was beyond mad and I'm working on it.

"What do you mean?" He pretended to look confused.

Oh he does not even want to get me started, I think. Ok Maria, take it down about half a notch. The whole school, or what's left of it, doesn't need to know about this. I lowered my voice a little.

"Mason Matthew Lansing don't you even think about playing dumb with me. If you think I'm going to go for your little act you better think again." I held up Jamie's arm. I can see she's begun to cry silently. Ok so I needed to make this quick. "If you can two time my best friend, tell her about it, then dump her on the last day of school you better have an explanation."

I turned around and put my arm around Jamie. "Shh it's ok." I pulled a Kleenex from my bag.

"Start talking you jackass." He just stood there. Seriously, I was getting ready to beat this kid into the tiled floor.

"Well, I'm sure she filled you in," he started but then paused. A slow smirk was crossing his face as he continued. "But if you'd like me to rub it in some more I guess I can. I met another girl and well, frankly, she's just better than Jamie in every way and we're on the same page all the time. Sorry Jamie but you never really were all that intellectual." He shrugged as I stared at him.

I was so past self control. Count backward from ten Maria. Don't do anything that will upset Jamie more, cause a scene, or do something you'll regret later. Once I'm done I glare at Mason and I swear I can feel fire shooting out of my eyes. The only thing I'm confused about is why he hasn't started screaming in pain yet. I guided Jamie to a chair and give her the rest of the Kleenexes in my bag.

My hands were shaking with the strong urge to choke him as I said to him, "Mason, just a few things. The girl is probably blind or she was dared. If you can find anyone that is willing to look at your face, she's obviously being paid. And one more thing. If you thought your little joke was funny, it wasn't. So go die in a sewer and rot you sick jerk."

"Oh yea I'm shaking in my shoes Maria. What are you like four feet? Bring it." He was making a scrunched up version of what he thinks an Asian should look like.

Screw this, I think. I swung my leg back as hard as I could and rushed it forward. Let's just say in the next five seconds, Mason is rolling on the floor and I don't think he's planning on getting up anytime soon.

"Bastard." I spat. I grabbed Jamie and got her out of there.
