Jacy bolted upright from where she was lying down somewhat uncomfortably on her bed. Her hands slightly shook and her green eyes were wide as she took in her surroundings. She was confused as to what had woken her so abruptly from her slumber, the remaining fear of whatever was haunting her within her dreams still shaking her body.
It was eerily silent throughout the home, no different than usual, except for that horribly consistent thudding. What the hell is that? Her brain couldn't process it just yet as she rubbed her eyes, swinging her legs over the edge of the bed. The only light coming through the open curtains was the moonlight outside alerting her that it was night time and that she hadn't been sleeping long. Another bang echoed through the house, shaking some small objects on the dresser. It was much louder than the previous ones and she jumped, instantly awake.
Standing up, Jacy faced the door, furrowing her eyebrows. She couldn't distinguish what the sound was and it was only her mother and her who lived in the house. Her eyes flickered to her nightstand and she grabbed a heavy paperweight in the shape of a large whale. It was a gift from an elderly lady in town after she helped with walking her dog. It wasn't particularly pretty but she appreciated it anyway and it was definitely coming in handy now. Cracking the door open, Jacy stuck her head out and looked from side to side in the dark hallway. No lights were on throughout the house and her breathing quickened as she took a step out, holding the paperweight up in defense.
She kept her lips pressed tightly together in hopes that her erratic breathing wouldn't be heard by whatever was in the house. She had heard about wild foxes getting into homes in the neighborhood and although she wished it wasn't, if that was the case then the things she were thinking wouldn't be true. Her mind kept racing to the thoughts of it being the murderers in town or the three men from earlier. Slowly, sh tip-toed downstairs, thankful that her feet were bare. The thudding had stopped but she tried to find its source. Her eyes scanned the darkness for any movements as she padded across the floor. The lock was still secure on the door meaning that no one had come through that way.
With furrowed eyebrows, Jacy looked into every room but there was nothing there. The noise had stopped and no clues were left to what it might have been. She dropped her arms to her side and sighed, biting her lip. What had it been? Jacy spun on her heel to head back upstairs when she saw a strange woman stood in the way. She jumped a mile high, a scream leaving her lips and flinging her arms out in panic. Her hair was poker straight and black like the color of ink, her eyes were a deep brown and her skin like smooth caramel. She was fairly young and beautiful. Jacy recognized her but only briefly as she had spoken to her at the local library; she worked there.
"How the hell did you get in my house?" Jacy snapped. The girl didn't reply. That's when Jacy noticed she was twitching slightly, almost like a rabid animal. "Excuse me? Are you okay?"
"My name is Willow." She told Jacy instead, smirking.
"Willow? May I ask what you are doing in my house?" Jacy questioned again, furrowing her eyebrows. She could have sworn her name was Zoe.
"No." She chuckled and Jacy's frown deepened when she looked up, her eyes flashing black. A gasp left her lips and she stumbled back in shock.
"What are you?" She asked with wide eyes. This couldn't be real-whatever this was-she had to be dreaming. Jacy gripped the paperweight tighter in her grip, her gaze flickering to the stairs slightly.
"Wow, how stupid are you?" Willow inquired, taking a step forwards.
"What are you talking about?"
"I expected something special but you're.....pathetic." Willow hissed, looking up and down Jacy's body with disgust.
"Excuse me?" She asked, angered. "Get out before I call the cops!"
