A wall
Hiding you
Surrounding
Your brain,
Unbreakable.
Hides you
From the monsters
And the bullies.
Acts
For you.
No control,
Causing crazy things.
One release,
One key
To escape
The prison:
Poetry.
You twist the key
In the lock.
You escaped.
But
No one
Believes
That it's
Really you.
You're not
Really insane.
You're not
Always wild.
You're not
Bulletproof.
You can
Fall
From the tallest
Of trees.
You are
Afraid
Of many
Things.
So you retreat
To the wall.
For you
Are too vulnerable
Without it,
Too easily hurt.
Sometimes you
Open the latch
And venture
Outside,
Only to find
That nothing has changed.
Nothing about you
Seems to fit in,
Even your name
Is laughingstock.
You wish
For the wall
To lean on
And cry.
Wishing for
Someone to understand.
Locking the gate
But you can't forget
What you saw
Outside,
What you wished,
What you feared.
Coming out is
An obsession,
But you are afraid
To show
Who you really are
So you stay
Behind the wall.
This is actually the poem that broke my wall, and told me I needed to change. It made me who I am today.
