Never Too Late

You love to participate in the Make a Wish events, it always makes you emotional, but also so honored to have the opportunity to fulfill those kids wishes. You have absolutely no words that can explain what it feels like to meet all those brave kids, standing there with a smile on their faces and so full of love despite all the pain life has thrown at them.

Today, you had one of those events to attend. You're really excited about it, but feeling a bit anxious, because you're going with Baron Corbin, who is nothing more than the guy you have the biggest crush you've ever had in your life. You think you might even love him, but you don't even dare to think about it that way... it'll lead only for heartbreak.

He doesn't even take a second glance at you, he just passes by you sand says "hi", with a small smile and that's it. Yes, he's a very shy and quiet guy, but that's just not it, you're also sure you're not his type, that's why he doesn't pay attention to you. If you caught his attention, he'd make an effort to talk to you... But nope. He seemed to be more into tattooed, dolled-up, badass girls, and you're this timid girl, who just doesn't draw attention in any sense. Sure, you shared the same musical taste, and even on movies, but it's not like that mattered... And he wouldn't just guess that out of nowhere.

Anyway, there is no point in even wasting your time overthinking and overanalyzing things with him, nor trying to change who you are or how you dress to make him notice you, because it's just impossible.

You shrugged off those thoughts and just decided to wear a pair of black skinny jeans, slightly ripped in the knees, combined with that AC/DC shirt you own for ages now, your black leather jacket and your new black Nike sneakers. You applied some light make up, just some mascara and eyeliner along with a matte lipstick. Your hair is all natural, with its brown smooth waves cascading down your shoulders.

Stephanie texted you saying Baron would be waiting for you at the hotel's parking lot, so that's where you're headed right now. You can't help but feel anxious, with your heart thudding rapidly in your chest.

You finally get him on your sight, walking towards him.

"So, are you ready?" He says as soon as you reach him, smiling a bit.

"Yup." You reply, returning the smile, but knowing it was forced.

The drive was short, just as the talking. You got there and the kids were already ecstatic waiting for the both of you, warming your heart.

You're already halfway through the kids, and you feel your heart nearly exploding with so much love and cuteness.

Until this sweet little girl, about 5 years old, comes to you and touches an unexpected subject.

"Can I ask you something?" Ava, the little girl, asks you, looking up really shyly.

"Sure, sweetie, go ahead." You say, lowering yourself to her height, putting one knee on the ground.

"Is he... is he mean?" She asks, looking a bit intimidated.

"Oh sweetie!" You chuckle lightly. "He's not, he's a really nice guy, but that's a secret." You smile widely at her, as you put your index finger over your lips, signalizing silence, and Ava took the hint, as she mirrored you right after.

"You and him look... so cute together." She hushes, after a couple of seconds, glancing slightly at Baron, making sure he didn't hear her. "You look like his princess and he's your strong knight." She hugs her own body as she smiles widely. You know you're blushing as hell, but you can't help but smile at Ava's innocence.

"Thank you, Ava, you're so sweet." You tickle her belly slightly. "But I'm not his princess."

"Ohhh..." Ava's face falls in sadness. "Don't you want to be his princess?"
