Summary: (y/n) and Baron grew up in the same town and used to be friends. He comes back to visit his family and runs into her.

Six years. Six long years since you've lost contact with your former friend, Baron. You and him grew up together: you went to the same school, lived in the same area... You did pretty much everything together.

You never judged him for following his dreams, for the contrary, you were one of his main sources of support; you always encouraged and urged him to pursue them. But then, he left to do exactly that. Leaving you alone with promises that he, somewhere along the way, failed to keep.

At the beginning, you always texted each other, or called each other late at night, sometimes even managed to meet up. You kept your friendship running: sharing your days, new experiences, everything with one another.

Until seven years ago, when it all started crumbling down. He barely texted. Then you wouldn't either, because you had a bad time swallowing your pride, and his actions hurt you. When he did text, it seemed like he was doing a public service, and honestly, you didn't know what hurt you more.

But it all came to a stop six years ago. Then it all just stopped for good. No more late night calls. No more texts. No more meetings. Nothing more.

It hurt like hell, you're not going to lie. You tried to pretend it didn't, but it did. You missed him every single day. You've been in love with the guy for so long, and for him to leave you that easily, not even looking back... it hurt so fucking much.

Seeing his parents almost daily didn't help much either. They felt bad for you; it was like they could read you and what you were feeling. Deep down you knew his mother was familiar with your feelings for her son. And secretly, she always prayed that you'd end up together.

Day after day, you got used to his absence. You still loved him, you still missed him, but you learned to live with it, mostly after the pain started to fade.

You finished your degree, you got new friends, then you got a job you loved in your hometown and, right now, you have your life exactly where you wanted it to be: you're an independent woman, you provide for yourself, you have great friends and family, and you have a job you love.

Honestly, there's just one thing missing from your dream life and that's a man who loves you as much as you love him; a man who wants to have a family with you; a man who wants you forever, through the ups and downs of life.

But apparently, that isn't happening any time soon. You've had some dates, even dated a guy or two, but they were mostly morons who didn't deserve a second of the time you wasted on them. And... they weren't Baron. You hate yourself for making him the model of comparison, you really do.

Today it's Saturday. A very regular one. You have a day off and, as usual, you use your morning to go on a walk downtown, stopping at the outside market to do some grocery shopping.

Just as you were picking some apples to buy, twirling them in your hand as you inspected each and every one, then putting them inside a plastic bag, someone bumped into you. It's Baron's mom.

"Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there." She quickly apologizes, a soft smile crossing her lips.

"It's okay, I'm good." You smile back. She looked like she was about to speak, until suddenly, she's interrupted by a voice... a voice you know all too well, a voice that almost makes your heart stop.

"Hey mom, what if we bought..." He trailed off, once he reached his mom and laid eyes on you.

Actually, you're sure that all blood left your face, considering Baron's mom stood there looking at you as if you were about to faint. You can't even face him, but you can feel his eyes on you. His mom sent you a hopeful look, but you end up averting your gaze from hers, moving it to the plastic bag you held.
