Alec is pacing back and forth, they took Astrid straight to the medic tent but this was mostly for humans, it wasn't as if Poppy could explain that she was a werewolf and she should've healed a long time ago but hadn't. The medics in the tent did take it seriously but as a human case, they thought she had concussion and that the open wound was normal because for a human it would be, they pressed bandage after bandage against her head to help slow the blood but they were needing to replaced far quicker than they should.
"Is she okay?" came a worried voice. It was Sam who like Poppy had been looking everywhere for his little sister. As soon as his saw her, he knew there was trouble - for once he didn't care what his parents would think about him, he just wanted her to spring up and everything to be okay. Like Poppy, Sam had also expected her to jump up, laugh and tell everyone it had all been one big joke - Sam almost wanted to go back to disliking his sister like he had done before, if she jumped up he could swear and shout then go back to being the angry brother she knew.
Staring at her almost lifeless body, Sam wasn't even listening to Poppy who was explaining what had happened to Astrid, it wasn't until he heard her mention Astrid's mate that his head swung painfully quickly in her direction.
"What?" he questioned narrowing his eyes - could this be a joke?
Not that Sam and Astrid had many deep conversations they had some, one included the reasons that Astrid had come up with that she didn't want a mate so this could only bring trouble.
"Astrid's mate, he's called Alec. We've been talking while waiting for you to get here and he's told me about himself. He seems like an okay guy but I haven't mentioned the whole 'Astrid not wanting a mate' thing yet" she shudders at the thought of his reaction to it which told Sam he was a powerful man. Any werewolf who had to suffer the thought of being rejected by their mate would be angry but it had to be someone very powerful to inject fear into those around them like this man had done with Poppy.
"Where is he?" Sam asks looking around the medical tent
"He was in here a couple of minutes ago but he went outside to call for some help from his pack, it's much closer than ours so he thought it'd be best to take her there" she says uncomfortably rubbing the back of her neck
"He didn't give us a choice did he?" Sam sighs rubbing his eyes wearily
"No... not really but maybe he is right. Astrid needs professional..." she stops for a moment to see if any humans are nearby "Werewolf help"
In that moment a man walks in, the way he held himself and how he was dressed told Sam this was the man who was going to be mated with his sister. He felt a surge of protective feelings for Astrid, despite everything Sam did love Astrid and wanted her to be happy - he truly believed mates are the best things for werewolves but if she believed she didn't want to be stuck to one guy, particularly her mate then he had to help her with that.
Alec notices Jax who is sat nervously in the corner, he had heard Poppy tell Sam that Astrid had a mate and he was here. Like Sam, from the way Poppy had been talking about this guy he knew he was in for a real bad time if Astrid's mate found out that they had been together. It didn't matter that they hadn't actually had sex for a mate to hate another werewolf, just a kiss on the cheek could cause anger and severe jealousy.
Narrowing his eyes at Jax, Alec walks up to Astrid before running his hand through her blood soaked hair, he grimaced as he pulled his hand away before wiping the blood on his pants leaving a red tint on his hands. This was the second time he had been in such close proximities to his mate, the first time she had run away from him and now she was practically on the brink of death if help wasn't given very soon. Despite the hurt, Alec was feeling for his mate, he couldn't make his mind off of the guy sat in the corner.
Alec knew Poppy because they had spoken, he could tell that Sam was Astrid's brother as he had been expecting him to come but even if he didn't there was a family resemblance in looks and Sam had a similar scent to Astrid, similar but completely different in the eyes of Alec who found Astrid's scent intoxicating and totally addictive where he, of course, didn't care about Sam's. Yet this other man who was in the room looking shifty and nervous, Alec couldn't place.
"Who are you?" Alec barks, stalking towards Sam whose eyes widened in fear. Alec liked that look, he told him he had total control and power which he always strived for.
"He's a f-friend," Poppy says nervously, her eyes quickly moving around the room - Alec could tell this was a nervous habit but he wasn't totally sure why. Although he could feel the anger building inside of him making him want to kill this pathetic specimen of a man he had no proof that anything had gone on that was out of the ordinary for a friend - Astrid certainly wouldn't be having male friends when she went to Alec's pack to live with him though that was for sure. Alec was already creating a future with his mate despite his wolf (Cole) becoming weaker as his mate did.
Turning his back on Jax, Alec spoke to the man and women in front of him, the ones he could trust not to have any suspicions around them in terms of his mate.
"We have to get Astrid to the front gate, my men are waiting there to take her to my pack hospital, I told them there was no point in trying to get through the crowd because it was way too busy. It would be quicker for us to go to them" he nods explaining the order telling them that they clearly do not have a choice about the care she is going to receive.
Although Sam didn't like it, he knew at this time there was no other option if he wanted his sister to get better. The state she was in, he feared that she wouldn't make it back to their pack - not that they had the best level of care anyway as they were a small, peaceful pack who only needed doctors usually for minimal care like broken bones through training, not actual fighting - not like Alec would let them leave anyway.
"Fine" he mutters standing up last, even a scared, shaking Jax is already stood up to help move Astrid.
The carry her out of the door where a member of the medical team is stood,
"You can't move her, take her back in there so we can help her," he says angrily
"Move little man," Alec says holding back a growl as he feels the colours of his eyes about to change any minute. The longer they waited the worse Astrid got so they needed to get her out of her at all costs.
"I'm telling you..."
Before the medic could finish his sentence Alec threw a punch to his nose knocking him across the grass without a second thought.
"Why did you do that?" Sam exclaims unable to tear his eyes from the now bleeding man who was just doing his job, thinking it was for the best
All Alec could do was shrug before stepping forward with some of his pack members he had with him earlier through the crowd, leaving the other three with no other choice but to just follow along even though they wanted to help to medic who was still sat in a daze on the floor.
'Yep, this man is dangerous'
Sam told himself with fear in his body, who knew what he would do if once Astrid was better she ran away from him.
