In the morning, I retrieve my phone from the drawer I'd put it in and check the last text she sent last night.

Can you come over tomorrow around noon?

Oh yeah, I have to see him again. Brilliant. I check the time and it's 10:47 in the morning. I pull the covers over my head, putting my phone on the bed beside me.

"Alright, Wes. Get up."

I sigh and sit up, the covers dropping from my face. As always, I perform my morning stretches before standing and opening the blinds. It was perfect out, probably really hot. With that thought, I throw on a tank and shorts. Nothing much but mentally, I feel like I can't do anything, even the littlest thing, to portray that I'm okay with this situation. Pretty pathetic I know, but at least I'm being the bigger person and playing it cool.

Before leaving the room, I grab my phone from the bed and I text back asking If I could come earlier. I want her to remember I'm her best friend. I drowsily stuff my phone into my back pocket and head down the hall and downstairs. Before even making it to the kitchen I can tell my mom's already started making breakfast. The aroma of bacon was strongly settled in the air.

She turned around once hearing my steps. "Morning. Breakfast?" She asks, most likely already knowing the answer.

"Duh." I say back almost instantly. Sitting down at the table, I ask her, "Hey, mom? Can I go to Lexi's in a little while?"

She sets the plate she's made in front of me, then prepares her own. "How come? You guys hang out way too often. Why don't you stay home with me for once?"

I'm quiet for a second. She sits down at the far end of the table from me. "Well, mom I have to go today. She's hanging out with her new boyfriend or whatever and she needs a wingman." I try my hardest to sound like just another loyal best friend.

"Really? You wanna go third wheelin'?" She asks.

"Mom, don't ever say that again. And yeah, I don't mind. She's my friend."

"Awe you have a friend."

"Mmkay, mom. Can I or not?"

"I guess. But if you go, you have to stay home tomorrow."

"Right." I laugh sarcastically. "Thanks." I stand and place my empty dish in the sink.

"Go ahead and wash that." She playfully demands before I get the chance to walk off.

I don't bother saying anything. With attitude, I wash the dish off and throw on some socks from the laundry room sock basket. My feet pound against the floor as I rush for my shoes. I want to get there before 12. I'm sure though, that before I leave I check my phone to see if she's even okay with my early arrival.

The phone's bright screen looks dim in the room's lighting. I angle my phone to read her message. Yeah that's cool.

I shove the phone back into my pocket before turning off the screen. "Bye mom, I'll be back."

"Love you!"

"You too!" I say before shutting the door behind me.

I don't ever knock when entering her house. Same goes for her at my house. We just don't knock anymore because what's the point when we trust each other so much? Instead, I just head in and walk toward the stairs to her room.

"Hey Weston, how've you been?" Before I could put my first foot on the step, Lexi's mom, Beth, stopped me. I walked into the kitchen where I could see her peeling potatoes on the table.
