At my desk sits a picture
Snapped 3 years ago
Of 9 costumed girls
All in a row
Starts with a girl
Who's in college now
In penultimate
A girl, mew she shall
{since she's dressed like a cat}
{though she acted like a rat}
Beside the orange tiger
Whose green eyes you can't see
Kneels, clothed in white,
A much younger me
Behind me stands the teacher's niece
Blackbird hair and Bambi eyes
Next to her, in a skimpy piece
Smiles a blonde who's still the same
And in front of her, a little to the right
Slouches an exotic girl
I did fight
She looks the same now
{though her eyes are darker}
By the girl in a blue prom gown
That belonged to Bambi Eye's
Great great aunt
Blinks a geek
I abandoned 2 friends for
Can I go on? I can't.
Tall and proud at the side of the geek
Is a frizzy-haired teen we loved
Who, beside, we felt humble, meek
She has her mom's smile and her sister's eyes
The lazy man's Persian
In a human form
Is right in front, near the center
And, alas, I mourn
For the girl I thought I knew
These 9 girls
Though today 4 are grown
Them I thought I knew
It was lies I have known
But since then we all grew
Where have they gone?
Even if I see them sometime
Our time has been forgotten
Note:
Girl 1 was a mime
Girl 2 was a fake
Girl 3 was a writer
Girl 4 was a snake
Girl 5 was a fighter
Girl 6 was a gator
Girl 7 was a mule skinner
Girl 8 was an operator
Girl 9 was a winner
