Mark had surprised you for Christmas. He came to visit you, something you definitely didn't expect, but what came out? He was going to spend the New Year's Eve with you as well!

You were woken up by the sudden sound of rain against the window and it wasn't a light little shower. No, it was heavy rain with strong wind. At first you didn't understand why would some rain wake you up. Then you realised. You had left the window open! So that's why you heard the rain being so loud!

You shoot up from the bed, totally ignoring Mark's hand around you. Almost falling on the floor, you managed to rush to the window and close it. God damn it! There was water on the floor now! Sighing you decided to head to the kitchen for some paper.

"Huh, y/n..?" a tired and confused voice came from the bed. Of course Mark had woken up.

"It's nothing, go back to sleep," you said reassuringly, since he had only two days left in here and you wanted him to rest well before his flight.

You quietly opened and closed your bedroom door and made your way towards the kitchen. It was hard in the dark, but you knew your apartment well. Soon you were heading back with a piece of paper towel in your hand. You tried to get back in the bedroom silently, but Mark was up anyway.

"Why are you running around the house with a paper towel so late at night?" he asked between yawns.

"There's some heavy rain outside and I had left the window open so some of the rain poured in. I'm gonna dry this real quick and come back to bed. By the way, what's the time?"

"3 am," Mark answered sleepily.

"Okay."

You dryed the puddle and threw the now wet paper towel in the trash.

"You done?" Mark asked, lifting the blanket for you.

"Yup," you smiled and crawled back to bed. Mark carefully put the blanket over you and took you into his arms.

"Sooooo...we're going to watch some fireworks today, right?" you asked excitedly while glancing at the clock.

"Calm down, sweetie! It's only 10pm!" Mark laughed while making himself a sandwich.

"Sorry, I just really love fireworks and you know that!" you tried to excuse yourself.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. Just be sure to close the windows, we don't want anything to fly in now, do we?" he added, smirking at you.

"Are you pointing at that rain incident? Because c'mon!" you playfully rolled your eyes. Mark smiled and walked to the living room with his sandwich to sit next to you.

"Can I have some?" you asked and pouted.

"How can I say no to that face?" Mark laughed and gave you half of his sandwich.

***

"C'mon, hurry up!!! We're gonna miss it!" you yelled out in frustration.

"Calm down! We have 15 minutes! We're gonna walk down the stairs for like one minute!" you heard him yell back from your right now shared bedroom.

"Still! Some people start early!" you whined.

"Well that's their problem," Mark stated, but still came out with his red and black squared scarf and black jacket.

"I like your scarf," you said happily.

"I like it too, that's why I bought it," Mark replied while putting on his trainers.

"Okay, let's go," he said. Before he could take a step you were already out of the door and bouncing up and down. Mark only sighed playfully and closed the door behind you.

It took you roughly 40 seconds to get down. Now all that was left was just to stand outside.

"See? I told you there's no point in coming out so early. Now we look like idiots," Mark said, lifting an eyebrow. Then a bang could be heard. The first people started.

"And I told you that some people are going to start early," you smiled victoriously. Mark let out a chuckle and turned his head to look at the fireworks. From the corner of your eye, you saw your neighbours carrying some fireworks onto the street.

"Hey, let's take a step back. They're setting it up too close for my comfort," Mark said in a worried tone and pulled you back.

"You closed the windows, right?" he added.

"Yup!" you smiled, " Ohhhh, they're gonna start soon!" you whispered excitedly while watching your neighbours setting up the show.

"Man, I don't like the fact that they're planning to do this so close to other houses..." Mark continued in a worried tone.

"Hey, they do this every year and nothing has gone wrong so far," you shrugged.

"Yeah, so far.." he mumbled, resulting in you giving him a punch in the shoulder.

Soon your neighbours stepped away, leaving one man next to the fireworks set. He grabbed a match from its box and lit it. He quickly lit the fireworks set and ran back.

"3, 2, 1..." you read in your head before Mark put his arm around you, pulling you closer.

Finally the set went off and sky was full of light and colours. You looked at Mark and still saw a bit worry in his eyes, but you could say that he was still enjoying it.

Suddenly everything went white and a loud bang made your ears ring. You heard a scream and Mark pulling you back with an incredible force. One fireworks rocket had gone off right in front of your legs.

"OH GOD, Y/N?! ARE YOU OKAY?!" Mark's muffled voice filled your head. Your ears were still ringing and sight still a bit blurry.

"Yeah, I'm okay, everything's okay, don't worry," you said, rubbing your eyes.

"Don't worry?! Ugh, what am I gonna do with you?.." Mark said softly and gave you a small kiss.

"Oh my... I am so sorry Miss! I had no idea this set was faulty! Are you alright?" a man ran over to you.

"Yeah, I'm okay. Of course you didn't know and besides, it was my mistake. I stood way too close," you smiled to the man.

"Still, you shouldn't put up fireworks so close to other houses," Mark interrupted.

"Mark, don..."

"No, no, no your partner is right. We'll be more careful in the future. And again, I'm terribly sorry for what happened," the man apologized once more.

"Don't worry, it's okay," you reassured and the man went off with big worry in his eyes.

"That was scary," Mark said, hugging you tightly, "How am I gonna go back home and leave you here like that? Who knows what can happen!"

"Anything can happen anytime. Now let's enjoy the rest of the evening and happy New Year!" you smiled.

"You little problem causer," he smiled back, "Happy New Year!"
