Chapter 4

“Are you ladies ready to order?” the waiter asked Kristy and me.

“Sure I’ll have the Peppered Shrimp Alfredo and she’ll have the Alfredo Shrimp and Angel Hair Pasta,” I told the waiter.

“So how are you and Christian going?” Kristy asks me as soon as the waiter left with our orders.

I watched her wondering if I should tell her the truth, I know she is my best friend but next thing I’m just being paranoid? “Honestly? I don’t know what to say,” I told her.

“What you mean you don’t know what to say? Is something wrong? Just talk to me,” she told me looking at me all worried.

“Well you it’s been a month since we started to date and I can’t say there is anything wrong but it’s just some things I have notice about him that I don’t like really.” I told her.

“Things like what?” she asked me

“Well how when male friends come up to talk with me and he gets all aggressive with me afterwards and quarrelling and implying I’m a slut.”

“HE WHAT?!?!?!?” Kristy says all enraged

“Calm down Kristy, lemme finish say what I gotta say then you can go all ninja on his ass okay.” I tell her so I can finish tell her what’s wrong.

“Hmph fine go ahead, I’ll try to stay calm.”

“Well as I was saying along with what I told her I would notice him pop up in place I am and I know he told me he would be somewhere else. After court he’s right there, he also comes in the office even when I’m meeting with clients. I just never seem to be free of him, it’s kinda stalkerish and I feel really uncomfortable.”

“But why haven’t you told me anything?” she ask me.

“Well I have been out of a relationship so long I really didn’t pay mind to it much. I thought you would think I was crazy,” I told her in shame.

“Sigh, Alexia we are best friends, we are supposed to be able to come tell each other everything,” she scolds me.

“I know, next time I’ll do that.”

“Good! So now you know that you can’t be with him no more, what he is doing is wrong and as you so rightly said it’s stalkerish. A girl needs space to breathe and he can’t be coming in your office and disrupting your work like that, your clients wouldn’t trust you anymore. You need to cut it off with him now before it gets worse ok,” she tells me seriously.

‘I will, I will, I need to do this. This is not what I need in my life and my clients and job are more important. I am sure there is someone out there who will be much better for me anyways,” I tell her with conviction.

She smiles at me, “There is someone better out there for you and his name happens to be Liam, you the hot boss you have there,” waggling her eyebrows at me.

Rolling my eyes, “I’m good, Liam scares me.”

“Hahahahaha, he scares you cause you know you will lose all control with him,” she tells me, “just give the man a chance woman, he looks like someone who knows how to treat a woman right.”

“Can we just drop this topic, please,” I ask her.

“Fine, fine, but you are gonna have to deal with it soon enough.”

“Yeah I know but not right now.” I tell her

Leaving the restaurant after lunch with Kristy I made my way back to my office building. Once I made it to my office Carlos stopped me before going in. “Hey boss, just so you know your boyfriend is inside your office, has been for the past half an hour.”

“Thanks for the heads up Carlos, do I have any messages?” I asked him

“Yeah Judge Strathmore’s office called about the subpoena, he said to give him a call as soon as you came back in,” he told me.

“Oh thanks, been looking forward to his call for some time now.” I told him as I walked into my office.

Before I could open my mouth to speak Christian was shouting at me “Where the hell have you been? I have been here for over thirty minutes waiting for my girlfriend to grace me with her presence, but noooo she’s out to lunch with someone. Who were you out to lunch with Alexia? Are you cheating on me? I am not tolerating this you hear me. You will be with me and only me, you are to talk to no other man but me and everywhere you go make sure I’m there with you. I can’t have a slut as a girlfriend up and out with everybody.”

I was shell shocked; I can’t believe he just said all that to me, who the hell does he think he is my maker? Lucky thing I already made the decision to end things with him, this is only cementing my decision.

“First off can you please lower your voice this is my place of work,” I told him in a hard voice, “secondly you have no right to talk to me like that, I am not your lap dog to do as you wish, you DO NOT own me. Also I am not cheating on you, but that no longer is important here as we are done. I am not going to continue with this relationship if you cannot respect my space and privacy and you continually call me a slut for talking and meeting with my friends. So please do me a favour and leave and never come back.”

“Y-y-you are breaking up with me,” he ask me incredulously

“Yes I am, if that is how you treat someone your supposedly care about I don’t want it,” I told him.

“Look Alexia, I’m so sorry, I can do better, just give me another chance” he asks pleadingly

I was tempted to give him another chance but he didn’t look too sorry, “I’m sorry too Christian but no. Can you please leave?”

“You will regret this so much Alexia, you are mine and if I can’t have you no one else will,” he told me in anger, “very soon you will pay.”

The look he gave me was beyond scathing, it was scary as he walked out of my office. I just watched him. What the hell just happened? Did he seriously just threaten me?

I sat down with my head in my hands trying to come to terms with the scene that just played out between Christian and myself. I was interrupted by my phone ringing, “Hello?”

“Boss, Judge Strathmore office is on the line, can I send the call through?” Carlos asked me

“Yeah sure.”

Finishing on the phone with the judge I called Kristy to relay the situation that happened with Christian. To say she was mad with what he told me was an understatement, she wanted to go after him right now and slash his tires or do some damage to his car. I had to calm her down but she did make me laugh, that’s why I love my best friend, her antics always make me laugh.

After that call I had to check my emails because I have neglected to do that for about a week. Clearing out all the junk mail and so forth there was an email from the new bosses. Apparently they have planned a company fun week in Hawaii and it is mandatory for everyone to attend. We are also allowed to bring one additional person.

“Hmmmmm, I could use some vacation away from all this Christian mess and I’ll carry Kristy so it’ll be much more fun. And it’s in a week’s time even better, I’ll get everything ready as soon as.”
