Laughter could be heard from the backyard of the Kent family farm. A twelve year old girl with beautiful blonde hair and blue eyes hid in the barn from her best friend as they played hide-n-go seek. She snickered as a twelve year old boy with black hair and blue eyes came through the entrance of the barn. Her name was Rosalie 'Rose' Elizabeth Smith and the boy's name was Clark Kent. Clark looked around as he tried to find his best friend who hid behind a stack of hay. Jonathan Kent, Clark's father, walked towards his son and said "Haven't found her yet, buddy?" Clark shaked his head as Rose began to giggle some more and said "Not yet, Dad. I looked everywhere. Even at her house but her mom said that she wasn't hiding there either." A horse's tail began to wave in front of Rose's face making her whisper then sneezed "No, no, no, no. I will not sneeze. I will not sneeze. Oh, no, here it comes. Brace yourselves. Achoo!" Clark turned to where the direction the sneeze came from and smirked as he walked towards the stack of hay that hid Rose. He yelled happily making Rose yelp "Gotcha!" Rose said to Clark "Ok, Clark. You win this round." Jonathan said to Rose as he walked out of the barn "Oh, Rose, your parents called earlier. They said that they're going to stay with your grandparents for while to see if they need anything. Your dad said it was okay if you stayed with us till they got back." Clark and Rose did a little fist bump behind their backs. Rose said as she gently smacked Clark on his shoulder and ran off "Tag! You're it, Clark!" Rose ran off laughing as she ran ahead of her best friend who chased after her, laughing as well.
5 years later (they are now 17 years old)
Rose stood in front of her locker at Smallville High as she waited for her best friend to get out of class. She noticed a group of popular guys, the basketball team, coming towards her and rolled her eyes. She thought 'Can they give me a break? I told James that I don't want to go out with him a million times already.' James, the basketball captain, stepped towards Rose and said "So, Rose. I was wondering if you'd like to come with me to the basketball game on Friday night. You know, just you and me." Rose said sassily "Oh. But what happened to the 'Going to the Moonlight Dance with your girlfriend, Amber' thing?" One of the basketball players said to Rose "Oh, Amber ditched James for one of those nerdy guys. His name was Andrew, I believe." She rolled her eyes again and said as she closed her locker "I told you a million times, James. No means no. You seem like a really nice guy but you're just not for me. Maybe one day you'll meet a nice girl and make her happy. But for right now, you're just not for me." That ticked off James really bad. He said as he grabbed Rose's arm "What... did... you... just... say?" Rose warned James as she struggled against his tight grip "Let go of me, James." She yelled "Let go of me!" A voice snapped causing the other teens to look at Clark who stood by Rose protectively "She said let go of her, James. You better listen to her before things get messy." James let go of Rose, but not gently, and pushed her into Clark. The basketball team left Clark and Rose just as the bell rang. Clark said to Rose as they walked to their next class "Are you okay, Rosie?" Rose replied as she rubbed her arm where James had grabbed her "I'm fine, Clark. I had it all under control until he snapped at me." Clark chuckled and wrapped his arm around her shoulders as they walked towards their next class.
